ANTHONY J. KLlDZlO, OF NANTIOOKE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONF- THlRD TO M. E. SANDERS, OF SAME PLAGE.
SUPPORTING-CASE FOR VEGETABLE-SLICING MACHINES.
SECEFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 328,410, dated October 13, 1885.
Application tiled May Q3, lr Serial No. 166,473. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern: tails ol' its make up, and which is provided Be it known that l, ANTHONY J. KLIDZIO, with suitable bearings for a vertical shaft, F, acitizen ofthe United States, and a resident of the upper end of which carries a pinion, G, Nanticoke, in the county of Luzerne and State meshing with a gear-wheel, H, mounted upon 5 of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new the inner end of a horizontal shaft, l, the outer and useful Iniprovementsin Supporting-Cases end of' which is provided with a crank, J, by for Vegetable- Slicing Machines; and l do means ofwhich itmay be conveniently manipuhereby declare t-hat the following is a full, lated. clear, and exact description of the invention, Mounted upon the lower end of the shaftF 1o which will enable others skilled in the art to is a circular disk or cutter-wheel, K, provided 6o which it appertains to make and use the saine, with slots L, and inclined knives or cutters M, reference being had to the accompanying drawwhich may beset at any desired angle, and the ings, which forrn a part of this specification, edges of which may be allowed to project to and in whichany desired extent to cut slices of such thick- Figure l is a perspective view of my invenness as may be desired off the vegetables', which 65 tion, showing the saine in position for operamay be placed for the purpose upon the face tion. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional ofthe wheel or disk K, over which a suitable view oft-he saine. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional hopper, O, of semi-cylindrical or other suit- View, showing the machine packed for storage able shape, is to be constructed.
2o or transportation. The frame E is to beniade of such asizc and 7.-;
The saine letters refer to the same parts in shape as to iit neatly in the box or casing A, all the figures. and the front side of the latter is to be pro- This invention relates to that class of mavided at its upper edge with a vertical slot or chines which are known as vegetable-Slicers,77 notch, l), to receive and accommodate the proand which are used for cutting or slicing varijecting end of the shaft l. The operation and advantages of this inven- Vith these ends in view the invention contion will be readily understood from the fore- 35 sistsintheiinproved construction and arrangegoing dcscription,\vlien taken in connection 85 ment of parts, which will be hereinafter fully with the drawings hereto annexed. described, and particularly pointed outin the Vhen it is desired to use the machine for claims. the cutting or slicing of vegetables, the frame In the drawings hereto annexed, A desig- E is taken out of its box or casing, the cross- 40 nates a suitable box or casing, which is prefbars D D are adjusted in the slots O C of the 9o erably rectangular in shape, and the front and latter, and the frame E placed thereon and rear sides of which, B B, are provided near fastened by means ofthe clamping-screw. rlhe their upper ends or edges with openings O C, vegetables to be sliced are then placed in the in which a pair of cross-bars, D D, are arhopper O and the wheel K revolved by the 4 5 ranged detachably, as shown in Fig. 2 of the mechanism provided for the purpose, with the 95 drawings, for the purpose of forming rests or result of causing the slices to drop into the supports for the frame proper of the cutter, as box A, from whence they may afterward be will be seen in the said figure. A readily removed. After operation the frame E designates the cutter-fra1ne,which may be A is restored toits box or casing, as shown in 5o of any suitable construction as regards the de- Fig. 3 of the drawings. It will thus be seen loo that the box A serves a triple purpose-viz., first, as a casing for the frame E ofthe cutter When the latter is not in use; secondly, as a base by which the said frame is supported and elevated to a proper position for operation; and, thirdly, as a receptacle for the sliced.v vegetables.
I would have it understood thatin the manufacture of this machine I do not limit myself to the precise construction and arrangement of details herein'described; but reserve to myself theprivilege of making` all such modifications as may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. The Combination, with the case, the front and rear sides of which are provided With perforations near their upper edges, of detachable cross-pieces which support the machineframe inserted through said perforations, and a clamping-screw passing through one Wall of the case and serving to secure the machineframe in position, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the case having perforations in the front and rear sides and a slot in one of said sides to receive the operating-shaft of the machine when the latter is within the ease, of a pair of cross-pieces,
