No. 497,732 Claims priority, application Brazil, Sept. 6, 1965, 172,882 1 Claim. (Cl. 220-205) This invention refers to improvements in ash-trays which are provided with a self righting cover on the upper part of a smoked cigarette storage compartment.
In the annexed drawings FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a cylindrical ash-tray and FIGURE 2 is a sectional view of the hinge structure of the ash-tray and FIGURE 3 is another perspective view of a cubic model of same invention.
The arrangement shown in the drawings is only given for explanation Without intending any limitation of shape.
As shown in the drawings the improvement in ash-tray according to this invention consists in a hollow body 1 of cubic, cylindrical or another geometric shape closed in the upper portion by a turning or oscillating cover 2 which is pivoted 3 in two opposite sides and said pivots are fixed in the upper limit of the thickness of the cover, i.e. near the upper surface of same in order to permit turning or oscillating around its eccentric axis, with return to initial position by gravity since the greatest portion of the cover is below the axis line.
The pivots 3 are lodged into apertures 4 or notches 5 situated in two opposite places in the ash-tray walls.

In the practice, when the smoked cigarette is thrown away the smoker puts the same upon the upper surface of the cover 2 and turns it with his finger to cause cigarette to fall by the force of gravity towards lower part of the ash-tray in which the combustion will be extinguished by air failure.
I claim:
An ash-tray for smoke-rs articles, comprising,
a cylindrical body having a closed bottom wall and an open top portion provided at diametrically opposite locations with notches opening at the upper edge of the wall :and extending downwardly from said edge to form vertically unobstructed mouth portions leading to pivot supporting saddles,
and an automatically re-closable cover having diametrically opposite projecting pins firee to enter and to leave said unobstructed mouth portions of the notches by manual lowering and lifting thereof, said pins located above the center of gravity of the cover to close the open top of said body automatically when the pins rest on the bottom of the groove.
