14 Claims. (cl. 211-57 The present invention relates generally to hangers, and, more particularly to an improvement in hanger devices for flat sales articles such as desk pads.
A main object of this hanger device is to render it possible to exhibit the pads in a neat grouping and in plished in accordance with preferred embodiments of the invention wherein a holder, which is provided for hanging or suspending the desk pad, is a part of the pad and of the same material, or it is a part of the protective cover of the pad and of the same material as this cover.
The desk pads or similar articles are provided with hanging pockets or similar means in the region of one of the edges. These hanging pockets are in detachable engagement with an aligning hanger, which is a hanger with which they can be lined up for example like clothes on a rack.
An advantageous and inventive embodiment of the above-described article is characterized by the fact that the hanger pockets of the desk pad are in fitting engagement with exchangeably mounted string loops, which loops are suspended in the ends of an aligning hanger. These aligning hangers are provided with a hanger eye placed in the center of gravity for lining the hangers up on a rack. Particularly high durability is accomplished in the above-described article, in accordance with the invention, by placing the suspension of the desk pads under the tensile stress of the edge from which it hangs, whereby a deformation of the desk pad is avoided. The tensile stress is achieved by making the aligning hangers somewhat broader than the edge of the desk pad from which it is suspended. The string loops which engage corner flaps or tongues of the pad run in an obliquely upward direction toward the hooks at the ends of the aligning hanger.
A further feature of the above-mentioned article is characterized in that the aligning hanger is provided with an aligning hook which is out from one piece with the aligning hanger and is of the same material. This aligning hanger is preferably made of non-deformable cardboard, plastic, or the like.
A preferred feature of the invention is that the arrangement is provided in a manner known per se, with a protective cover. This protective cover is open at the bottom and is furthermore provided, in the region of the upper edge, with a suitable perforation for passing the hanger eye or the hanger hook, respectively, of the aligning hanger therethrough.
Additional objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent upon consideration of the following description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a schematic elevational view of the rear of a desk pad.
FIG. 2 is an enlarged detail view of a portion of this desk pad.
FIG. 3 is a detail view similar to FIG. 2 but showing another form of detail.
FIG. 4 is a schematic elevational view of the rear of a further embodiment of a desk pad.
FIG. 5 is a sectional view of the device as seen along line 55 of FIG. 4.
With more particular reference to the drawings, a desk pad 1 is shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 provided with respectively one hanger pocket 2 at the corners of the edge from which it is suspended. This hanger pocket 2 is wing-shaped, the outer edges of the hanger pockets being welded flush with the corner of the desk pad.
Furthermore, the pockets 2 are provided with respectively one slot or perforation 3 which is in engagement with a string loop 4. The latter has a holder 5 which, when in use, is inserted in the pocket 2, while the attached string loop 4 extends to the outside through the slot 3. The rear of the desk pad 1 is normally coated with a sideresistant or frictional plastic foam layer which also securely prevents the inadvertent detachment of the holder 5 and thus of the string loop 4. The hanger pocket 2 does not occupy any noticeable or appreciable space when the desk pad lies flat. However, it is also possible to make the weld seam of the flap in such manner that is less durable so that the flap can easily be loosened at a wing end and can be pulled off.
The string loops 4 are in hanging engagement with the ends 6 of a hanger 7 which may comprise wire, flat-bar steel, plastic, or like material. The ends 6 of the hanger 7 are formed into the shape of hooks 8. The hanger 7 itself is provided in its center with an eye 9 for suspension on the rack of a stand (not shown), this eye being suitably constructed as a broad flange so that twisting or tilting of the eye 9 and with it, the hanger 7, is impeded.
Under certain circumstances, it could also be advantageous to attach the hanger pockets 2 to the rear of the pad 1 by detachable self-adhesion means. In FIG. -3, detachable, self-adhering fiat strips 10 are provided at the rear of a desk pad 1 for the purpose of elfecting a detachable suspension engagement of a hanger with such a desk pad. These fiat strips 10 carry string loops 4, the
string loops 4 having been threaded through several eyes of the strip before .attaching'the flat strips to the pad. The hanger pocket may here be made of strong paper or weak plastic foil, which permits repeated use thereof.
The desk pads which have been equipped as above described can also be suspended from perforated boards by hanging the pads on pairs of hooks, because the string loops, according to the present invention extend away from the desk pads and the hooks thus engage the loops outside of the pads.
In the desk pad 1 illustrated in FIGS. 4 and 5, a hanger 7', made of rigid material, such as cardboard, plastic, or the like, directly engages the pockets 2 provided at the rear of the desk pad 1. The hanger 7' extends up into the region of the longitudinal edges of the pad. Because of this the pad 1 is made taut because of the detacha-ble hanger. A protective cover 10 which is open at the bottom is slipped over the desk pad 1 with hanger 7', this protective cover having a suitable perforation at the top for allowing a book 11 of the hanger 7 to pass through. This hook is cut from the same piece as the hanger and is of the same material.
Under certain circumstances, it would also be possible to provide the ends of hanger 7' in the insert pockets which are arranged on the front of a desk pad in the region of the corners.
It will be understood that the above description of the present invention is susceptible to various modifications, changes and adaptations, and the same are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and range of equivalents of the appended claims.
