Definitions

  • the invention relates to a vacuum cleaner, a housing having a space for accommodating a filter bag and an opening through which the filter bag can be inserted or removed.
  • the invention is characterized by the arrangement of the filter bag in a frame provided with means for connecting the filter bag with the suction duct, which frame can be inserted as a whole into the housing or removed therefrom.
  • Vacuum cleaners of this type have the advantage that the suction duct need not be disengaged for emptying the bag and that the construction is left unchanged and, in particular, that there is no need for manipulating a dust bag, since a frame supporting dust bag can be separated from the vacuum cleaner.
  • FIG. 1 is an embodiment of the vacuum cleaner according to the invention in a diagrammatic sectional view.
  • FIG. 2 shows a partial sectional view of an elevation of the filter bag and FIG. 3 shows one of the pivots of the flap.
  • the vacuum cleaner shown in the figures comprises a housing 1, in which a motor ventilator aggregate 2 is arranged.
  • the housing 1 has a suction spout 3, accommodating the end of a suction duct 4.
  • the suction duct opens into a dust filter 5.
  • the portion of the housing 1 containing filter 5 is an open through or U-like part into which the dust filter 5 can be lowered and removed, This housing part 1 is closed by a housing cover member 6 of matching, inverted U shape as is known.
  • the dust filter 5 is arranged in a frame made up of a ring 7, for example of a synthetic substance, and a bracket generally designated 8, preferably of a metal wire.
  • the dust filter 5 is rigidly connected at one edge 9 with the ring 7 in any known manner.
  • One side of the ring 7 can be closed by a lid 10, which lid may be connected by suitable clamps (not shown) in a fitting edge 11 of the ring 7 and be pivoted on the ring.
  • the lid has an opening 12 registering with the opening of the spout 3 and associated suction duct 4. Opening 12 is surrounded by -a flange 13, which fits on a ring 14 of resilient material.
  • the ring 14 is attached at the inner end of spout 3 of housing 1 surrounding the end of the suction hose 4 so that when the flange 13 is urged against the ring 14 an air-tight connection is established between the suction hose 4 and the filter bag 5.
  • the opening 12 is normally closed on the inner side with a flap valve 15 of rubber or other elastic material which is mounted on lid 10 in known manner, so that, when the filter bag is removed from the housing, dust will not fall out through the opening 12.
  • the lid 10 is provided with a handle 16 for easily opening the lid relative to the ring 7.
  • the bracket 8 of the filter frame has two arms 17, the ends of which are bent over to form eyelets 18, which surround two pins 19, located one on each side of the ring 7, with which they are rigidly connected or with which they are integral. Thus a pivotal connection between the bracket 8 and the ring 7 is obtained.
  • the arms 17 are bent over at their other ends in the form of a U and the limbs of the U are designated as 20 and 21.
  • the link parts 21, which are slightly curved bear on the part 22 of (FIG. 1) a partition in the housing 1 or on the wall of the flap 6, so that the flange 13 is tightly urged against the ring 14 via arm 17, pins 19, and ring 7.
  • the curved parts 20 and 21 of arm 17 thus operate as springs.
  • the parts 20 serve furthermore for fastening an elastic strip 23 attached to the filter bag 5, so that the bag is stretched in the frame 8.
  • the bracket 8 also includes a semicircular loop 24, which interconnects the two arms 17 and loops over the filter bag 5, and a portion 25, which extends between the upper part of the loop 24 and the web between the two parts 21.
  • the portion 25 serves, in addition, as a handle for inserting and removing the filter bag 5 from the housing.
  • the portion 25 is shaped so that it engages the inner side of the cover member 6, when the latter is closed. Thus, it is at the same time ensured that the frame and the filter bag occupy the correct positions in the housing.
  • the cover 6 is provided with pivots adjacent spout 3 of housing 1 (FIG. 3).
  • the eyelets 26 of these pivots are not completely closed so that the flexible pivotal pins 27 connected with the cover 6 are disengaged by a snapping movement when a given amount of force is exerted.
  • the flap -6 which is preferably made of a synthetic substance, is thus prevented from being damaged by overload, when closed, moreover, damage to the cover by shocks, dropping or the like is avoided, since the cover will be disengaged from the housing.
  • the flap 6 is furthermore provided with a locking pin 28 at its other end (FIG. 1).
  • the combination comprising a vacuum cleaner housing having walls defining a space therein communicating with suction spout means connected with said housing, and a filter bag assembly received in said space; said filter bag assembly comprising a filter bag having an opening, an annular member fitting in said filter bag opening, a bracket member having a pair of spaced parallel arms, means for pivotally connecting said arms at one end With said annular member, a lid member connected with said annular member at the side thereof opposite said filter bag, an opening in said lid member for registry with said suction spout means, an outwardly projecting flange on said lid member coaxial with said opening, the other end of said arms engaging the Wall of said housing opposite said spout for forcing said flange into sealed engagement with the wall of said housing surrounding said suction spout.
  • said lid member includes a hinged flap valve overlying said opening in said lid member for preventing accidental removal of the contents of said filter bag.
