A. D. GINGBRIGK- WAGON BODY. No. 326,970. Patented sept. 29, 1885.
Attorney' UNrrna STATES Artnr FFIC..
AUSTIN D. GINGERIOK, OF NEAR NORTH MANCHESTER, VVHITLEY COUNTY, INDIANA.
WAGON-BODY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,970, dated September 29, 1885.
Application led February 19, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
- Be it known that I, AUSTIN D. GINGERICK, a citizen of the United States, residing near North Manchester, in the county of Vhitley and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lagon- Bodies; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the anio nexed drawings, making a part of this speciiication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my invention; Fig. 2, a longitudinal central section thereof, and Fig. 3 a cross section.
The present invention has relation to the construction of wagon-bodies; and the object thereof is to provide an attachment to the zo body or box of the wagon whereby it iS especially adapted for unloading corn in the ear, and for general farmers use; and it consists in the construction, substantially as shown in the drawings, and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A repre sents the wagon-box, and B the platform at tachrnent provided with the sides O. This attachment has parallel supporting-bars a,
3o and cross-bars b, by which means it is supported and braced by angle-plates c, secured to the sides C and to the projecting ends of the supporting-bars.
The under side of the body or box A is provided with metal clips d, to receive the projecting ends of the supporting-bars a., whereby the attachment is readily connected to the body or box A, and as conveniently removed when not required for use.
4o The body or box A of the wagon has the usual endboard, e, which is removable therefrom when the wagon is to be unloaded.
The attachment, consisting of the platform B and sides O, forms an extension to the body or box A for the perso-n to stand upon when shoveling out the contents of the box A, the endboard e being first removed. The attachment is held connected to the body or box of the wagon by suitable fastening devices. I have shown in the present instance hooksf on the 5o sides C of the attachment engaging with staples g on the body or box A; but any other well-known means of fastening may be substitnted as found most desirable.
The attachment alter the end-board is removed catches all the corn and leaves room for the person to begin shoveling at once, thereby avoiding the necessity of throwing out enough corn to make room for shoveling, as in the common farm-wagon. 6o
The platform attachment B is provided at its outer end with a transverse beveled cleat,
h, the purpose of which is to keep the cover from falling off should the body sway from the weight of the operator, or the wagon stand on uneven ground.
Much time and labor are saved by the use of this attachment, having decided advantages over the old way of unloading corn, while its construction does not add materially 7o to the cost of manufacture.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A Wagon body or box provided with a removable end-board, and having upon its under side suitable clips, in combination with an attachment consisting of a platform provided with side sections, and parallel supporting-bars extending beyond the platform a dis- 8o tance cqual to the length ofthe box or body, and adapted to enter the clips thereof, the platform having at its outer edge a transverse cleat, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
AUSTIN D. GINGERIOK.
W'it-nesses:
JOE. COWGILL, J. H. BARsH.
