Beit known that we, CHARLES THEINERT and SIMON CHRIsTIANsEN, both of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Mode of Making Plush Articles of Clothing, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

In uniting the parts or pieces for forming plush articles the edges of said parts or pieces have been folded over toward the smooth sides of the pieces, and the pile faces of the folded parts of the two pieces brought in contact and united by stitches made through the said folded parts. Some of the hairs or pile-threads are cnt off when cutting the pieces by'means. of shears, and some are doubled and bent over by folding the edges. The seam can be seen distinctly on the pile side of the article and materially mars the appearance of the article.

The object of ^ur invention is to avoid these difficulties, which we accomplish by cutting the pieces in a special manner, abutting the edges, and sewing the abutting edges together by means of the glove-stitch.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which simi-lar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures.

The pieces A are lcut in this manner, so that the threads uniting the pieces, and which threads pass through the pieces near the edges, do not all hold on one or a few Warp or weft threads near the edges, but on numerous different threads, as is shown in Fig. 2. When the pieces A are cut in this manner, the stitches can be passed through the body of the piece very close to the edges, and the threads will not rip the piece.

The cut edges of the pieces are abutted, as shown in Fig. 3, but not lapped or folded, and then stitched together by the glove-stitch or cross -stitch. The upper edges of the pilethreads of the two united pieces are flush, and the seam does not appear on the plush surface of the article formed.

Our garment has invisible seams, whereas in the plush garments as usually made the seams are indicated by a depression in the surface of the plush.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In the art of making plush articles of clothing, the herein-described method, which consists in cutting the plush on the back by means of a knife diagonally to the warps and wefts, abutting the edges of the pieces, and uniting them by the glove or cross stitch, substantially as herein shown and described.
