NET ATTACHMENT FOR HAMMOCKS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,321, dated September 15, 1885.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, Aivios N ioKEEsoN,of Boston, (Somervi1le,) in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Mosquito-Net Attachments for Hammocks,of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.

The object of my invention is to combine with a hammock a frame that shall serve asan opener or stretcher for the hammock,and also as a frame andsupport for a mosquito-net. I attain this object by the mechanism shown in, the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective View showing my improved mosquitonet attachment for haml mocks as it appears when the mosquito-net is closed, the net entirely enveloping the hammock. Fig. 2 shows the hammock in perspective with that part of the mosquitonet that forms the door77 being open. Fig. 3 is a cross-section, showing one of the hoops or frames, partly in elevation and partly in sec-.

The hammock proper, A A., may be made in any of the desired styles and of any size and quality. At each end of the hammock I place a frame consisting of cross-bars D D', the ends of which are securely fastened to socket-pieces E E' F F'. (See Fig. 3.) Between these bars D D', I coniine the hammocknetting A, the meshes of which are kept apart by pins d dor by any other suitable device. The barsD D'are clamped together by thumbscrews S S, and swing or open on the hinge D, which is a part of the socket-pieces F F'. The ends of the bars D D' are securely fastened J to the socket-pieces by screws or rivets.

ends of the hammock are held by the bars D D', as has been already stated. I have one of the above-described hoops at each end of the hammock, as shown in Figs. l and 2. These hoops serve as a frame-work to hold the mosquito-netting H H H' H' in the proper positionthat is,entirel y inclosing the hammock. For convenience in getting into or out of the halnmock,I have, in connection with such hoop N M, a curved bar, K, hinged to the hoop at L. This curved bar has attached to its outer side a part of the mosquito-netting, the the edge of said netting dropping to quitea distance below the point lP,where the hoops join, as indicated by P', Fig. 3, so that when the curved bars K K are brought down onto the hoop, as indicated at Figs. l and 3, then the mosquito-netting entirely surrounds and incloses the hammock. To enter the hammock the bars K K are thrown back,as indicated in Fig. 2. This leaves free access to the hammock.

The mosquito-netting is attached to the hamabout them and there secured by cords. The netting is made fast to the hoops N N and bars K Kby gimp and tacks orlby any other suitable means.

This inosquitonet attachment may be readily applied to any hammock.

I claim as my invention- In a han1mock,the combination of the hammock-net Aand stretcher-bars D D', having socket-pieces E E' F F', with the scmicircular pieces N M, curved bars K K, and netting H H H' H'. all operating together substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
