Description

(NoModeL) D. B. BLESER.
INTERFERING PAD FOR HORSES. No. 326,010. Patented Sept. 8, 1885.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL B. BLESER, OF MANITOWOO, WISCONSIN.
lNTERFERlNG-PAD FOR HORSES.
SJPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,010, dated September 8, 1885.
' Application filed May 5, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL B. BLESER, of Manitowoc, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Interfering-Pads for Horses; and I do hereby declare the follow-.
ing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to interfering-pads for horses, the object being to provide a pad of novel construction having a roller to serve as the contact-surface.
The invention consists in a combination, with an interfering-pad, of a roller so arranged as to constitute the contact-surface of the pad.
The invention further consists in the various features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims. i I
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an interfering-pad embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a View of a modification, with a portion of the securingband cut away. Figs. 3 and 4 are sectional detail views.
The securing-band A (preferably of leather) is provided with the usual buckle and strap, B.
0 represents a metallic plate adapted to be secured by rivets or other means. to the inner side of the band A; This plate is formed with an inwardlyextending guard-frame, D, consisting of the semicircular body d and top and bottom strips, d d. The outer side of the plate 0 is provided with vertically-arranged journal-boxes c c, to receive a shaft, E, upon which is mounted a roller, F, preferably made of rubber or other yielding material. The plate 0 is formed with an opening, 0, opposite the guardframe D, to permit the roller to extend within said frame, and the bearings o c are arranged centrally above and below the opening 0, as shown.
G represents an inner covering of leather, secured to the band A by stitching or rivets, and forming an inner ply for the band. Thus the plate 0 is practically secured between the thicknesses of a two-ply band.
The band A is provided with a lining of cloth or other suitable material.
It will be noted that the journal-boxesc c of the plate 0 are open at both ends, to prevent the accumulation of dust or dirt therein,
which might obstruct the movement of the roller-shaft.
Suitable Washers, ff, are arranged upon the roller-shaft on each side of the roller.
As many slight alterations in the details of form and construction might be devised without departing from the spirit of my invention, I do not limit myself to all of the detail fea tures herein described; but I reserve to myself the right to make all such modifications as may properly fall within the scope of the following claims.
I am aware that heretofore an interferingpad has been used consisting of horizontallyarranged rings secured together by inclined rods, which latter serve as axles for rubber tubes or rollers; but my invention is distinguishcd from such a pad by the projection of the rollers F laterally beyond the securingstrap, so'that said rollers will be readily struck.
. Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In an interfering-pad, the combination, withjthe securingstrap, of a metallic plate formed with bearings and a roller whose shaft or axle is supported in said bearings, substantially as set forth.
2. In an interfering-pad, the combination, with the securing strap or band, of a plate formed with anfinwardly-extending guardframe and provided with bearings, and a roller mounted upon a shaft supported in said bearings, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination, with the securing band or strap of an interfering-pad, of a metallic plate secured to said band or strap, a roller mounted upona shaft adapted to revolve in bearings of said plate, and a suitable lining for the band or strap, substantially as set forth.
4:. The combination, with the band or strap formed of two thicknesses of material, of a metallic plate secured between said plies or thicknesses, and a roller arranged to revolve, substantially as set forth. y
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
