June 21, 1966 E. E. HENSEL LADDER 00121) FOR VENETIAN mamas,

INVENTOR Z Hansel )of: EM
MM W
ATTORNEYS United States Patent 3,256,928 LADDER CORD FOR VENETIAN BLlNB Erich Emil Hansel, The Hague, Netherlands, assignor to Hunter Douglas International (Quebec) Ltd., Montreal,
Quebec, Canada, a corporation of Canada Filed Mar. 9, 1964, Ser. No. 350,512 Claims priority, application Netherlands, Mar. 11, 1963,
290,073 2 Claims. (Cl. 160-178) This invention relates to a ladder cord assembly for Venetian blinds, comprising two parallel side cords between which there are provided equally spaced each time two transverse threads or transverse cords for receiving a slat of a Venetian blind thereinbetween.
The ladder cords of this kind known so far present the disadvantage that it is diflicult to mount the slats of the Venetian blind in that prior to the mounting of the slats of the Venetian blind the transverse threads or transverse cords have become entangled. Consequently the mounting of the slats requires much time.
The invention aims at removing this disadvantage, which is attained with the ladder cord according to the invention in that each two transverse threads or transverse cords destined to receive a slat of a Venetian blind are fastened to the side cords at a small distance from each other. In consequence of the fact that the ends of each two transverse threads or transverse cords, between which a slat of the Venetian blind is to be mounted, are fastened to the side cords at a small distance from each other, said transverse threads or transverse cords will always remain free and at a small distance from each other when the slats are mounted.
A preferred embodiment of the ladder cord according to the invention is characterized in that the side cords are braided and the transverse threads or transverse cords are constituted by one single thread or one single cord which is interlaced withthe meshes of one of the side cords located between said transverse threads or transverse cords, said transverse thread or said transverse cord being passed each time at the end of an intermediate space between the transverse threads or transverse cords to the other side and being interlaced with this other side cord over a distance of at least one mesh, whereafter said thread or said cord is passed back to the first-mentioned side cord and is interlaced again with the side cord at a distance of at least one mesh from the outward transverse thread or transverse cord portion. In order to ensure that the other side cord presents the same appearance as the first-mentioned side cord, also a thread or cord may be interlaced therewith. This thread or cord may be a continuously extending thread or cord.
The invention will be further explained below with reference to the accompanying drawings showing by way of example an embodiment of the ladder cord according to the invention.
FIG. 1 shows this ladder cord diagrammatically.
FIG. 2 shows part of said ladder cord on an enlarged scale.
The ladder cord shown in the drawings consists of two braided longitudinally extending parallel side cords 1 and 2. For these cords a yarn consisting of a number of threads, for example three threads, is utilized.
3,256,928 Patented June 21, 1966 ice A thread or cord 3 is each time interlaced with a number of meshes of the side cord 1, whereupon said thread or said cord is passed to the other side cord 2 and is braided with at least one mesh of said side cord 2, whereafter said thread or said cord is passed again to the side cord 1 and is again interlaced with a number of meshes of said side cord 1 before being passed again to the side cord 2. As a consequence of these portions of the thread or cord 3 being passed in one and in the reverse direction the transverse threads or transverse cords 4 and 5 of the ladder cord are formed between which transverse threads or transverse cords a slat of a Venetian blind may be inserted. y
In order to ensure that the side cords 1 and 2 have the same appearance, a thread or cord 6 is interlaced with the side cord 2 in the embodiment shown of the ladder cord.
If all of the threads or cords consist of a material known under the trademark of Trevira the ladder cord can be weather-resistant so that it may be utilized for Venetian blinds mounted at the outside of a building.
It is obvious that the invention is not restricted to the embodiment described above by way of example but that it may be modified in numerous ways without departing from the scope of the invention.
1 claim:
1. A ladder assembly for mounting the slats in a Venetian blind, said assembly comprising at least two parallel spaced longitudinal cords and pairs of transverse cords extending between and connecting said longitudinal cords together, said pairs of transverse cords being longitudinally spaced apart at substantially equal intervals along the length of said longitudinal cords and the transverse cords in each pair being longitudinally spaced apart from each other, said pairs of transverse cords being constituted by a single continuous length of cord material which is interlaced longitudinally along the length of one of said longitudinal cords and at said intervals passes from said one longitudinal cord to the opposite longitudinal cord and is there interlaced along a longitudinal extent thereof equal only to the longitudinal spacing between the transverse cords in each said pair and said continuous material is then passed back to said first longitudinal cord and is interlaced therewith along another longitudinal extent thereof equal to one of said intervals, said continuous length then being passed to said opposite longitudinal cord and back to said one cord to form a second of said pairs of transverse cords.
2. The ladder assembly of claim 1, wherein said opposite longitudinal cord is interlaced continuously along the length thereof by a cord of similar appearance to that of said continuous length of material.
