UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
GEORGE P. BOWER, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
CURTAlN-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,491, dated September 1, 1885.
Application filed August IL 1884. (No model To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. BoWER, of
Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, andin the State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain- Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact deseri ption thereof.
My invent-ion relates to curtain-fasteners, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device as made for fastening the sides of the curtain. Fig. 2 is a like view showing the construction of the fastener as used for the horizontal edges of the curtain. Figs. 3 and 4 are side elevations of the fasteners in their respective positions; and Fig. 5 is a top view of the vertical fastener, showing the curtainbutton in position, with its shank out off.
A indicates the fastener, which is made of a flat metallic piete perforated at one end when used to fasten the vertical edges of the curtain, and at both ends when used for the horizontal edges of the same, ordinary tacks or screws,a a,being inserted in the said perforated ends to secure the fasteners to the frame I). In the first ease-that is, when the fastener is designed for the vertical edges of the curtainthe free end of the plate A is made with an open slot, I), wherein thebutton-shank cis received to fasten the curtain B in position, and to enable the button 0 to be properlylodged the plate is bent out at a, as shown, and the slotted portion of the same is inclined inward toward the frame-bar D, the space left between the rounded ends of the tongues a? a being just sufficient to allow the edges of the button to pass under the same. As the In the v requires to secure it against the tendency of the curtain to draw it upward. In the case of the verticaledge fastener, the strain being directlyagainst the fastened point, the fastener itself cannot be shifted thereby.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A curtain-fastener consisting of a metal lic plate having tongues formed out of its sides, constituting a fork, the same being bent and inclined so as to receive the crown of the curtain-button, substantially as set forth.
2. In a curtain -fastener, in combination with the curtain 13, having the button 0, ametallic plate, A, having suitable perforations for the fastening tacks or screws a a, and the tongues a a bent and inclined as shown, to receive the shank and hold the head of the said button, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of VVisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
GEO. P. BOWER.
