Description

UNITED STATES Parent @Tirion SYLVEXUS J. LAGKEY, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
BOSOIVI- BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,346, dated September l, 1885.
Application filed December 9, 1834.
To a/ZZ wr'wm may concern,.-
Beit known that L'SYLvnNUs J. Laonnv, a residentof Indianapolis, Marion county, Indiana, have made certain new and useful Irnproveinents iu BosonlfBoards, a description of l which is set forth in the following specifica` tion7 reference being made to the accompany ing drawings, in the several figures of which like letters indicate like parts.
My invention relates to the construction 0f boards for clamping shirts while ironing besoins and neckbands, and will be readily understood from the following description.
ln the drawings, Figure l is a front view of the board and its frame in place. Fig. l is a longitudinal section on line Z', Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on I, Fig. l.
In detail, b is the bosom-board having a solid iiccl;-piece, n, at its upper end, a slight-ly convex top. and a tlat bottoni having projections p on each side and on the lower end. It this board be made, as it may be, of two parts or layers, the lower half will thus be longer and wider than the upper half, for the purposes hereinafter set forth.
c is aspri iig-catch fastened in the lower end of the board, connected by a stein passing through that end ot' the frame, with a push knob, k, on the end for freeing the catch from its engagement with the frame.. The upper end ofthe board is sloped or rounded, as shown in Fig. l, and fastened to the under side of the hoard is a thin metal hook, h, which tits, hingelike, over the central part, which is rounded, of the upper end of the framef. This frame is rabbeted out on both sides and the lower end to receive the projections on the lower partot' the board b, and to such a depth that i i l l (No model the board b is allowed to rise some distance above the plane of the top of the framef, as shown in Fig. 3. l
This construction is peculiar, and the shirt being placed over the board, the neck-yoke surrounding the neck-piece n, the bosom over the bosoin-board, the shirt is drawn evenly and stretched over the board, the end of the framef, hinged in the hook z., the frame pushed down over the board, and by means of the projections p on sides and end and rabbet r a rrn grip is taken on the goods, and the catch c, engaging with the board, the shirt is securely held in place, and may thus be ironed easily and smoothly. The edges or shoulders ofthe board projecting above the sides of the frame assist materially in holding the shirt down even, and the peculiar clamp formed by the arrangement ot' the parts is strong, easily' worked, and serviceable.
I am aware that bosom-boards having neekpieces and boards provided with frames are not new, and do not broadly claim the same as my invention; but
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent., is the following:
The bosolnboard b, having projectionsp on its sides and lower end and solid neck-piece a, hook l1, fra-ine f, with rabbets r on its sides and lower end, arranged so that board b projects above the plane of the sides of frainef, and spring-catch c, all combined substantially as described.
Vitness inyhand, November 3, 1884.
SYLVENUS J'. LAGKEY. lVitnesses:
C. l. JACOBS, l-l. B. Mliinrnlon.
