6 Claims. (Cl. 36-72) This invention refers to protectors for shoes and more specifically to a one-piece shoe protector adapted for placement on shoes of any style.

It is an object of this invention to provide a one-piece shoe protector which is light in weight and which may be folded completely flat thereby enabling it to be easily carried in the users pocket.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a shoe protector which has an upper portion for mounting on shoes for protection from paint, dirt and the like and which may be attached to shoes by straps extending across the bottom of the shoes.

It is .a still further object of the present invention to provide .a shoe protector of flexible material which may be used to cover substantially all of a shoe upper while leaving the lower portion of the shoe exposed.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a pair of shoe protectors of the present invention in place on a users shoes.

FIGURE 2 is an elevational view showing the shoe pro-' tector of the present invention in unfolded form.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, reference numeral 10 refers to the shoe protector comprising the present invention. The shoe protector comprises a bifurcated .cover member 12 including a first side portion 14 and a second side portion 16 which are joined only at the toe portion 18, thereby comprising a one-piece arrangement. The cover member 12 may be made of any desired flexible material, such as plastic, cloth, or any fabric which provides protection from paint, dirt,- or the like.

12 and 16 are formed substantially in the shape of shoes and include a heel portion 20, a vamp portion 22 and a toe portion 24. This shape allows the shoe protector of the present invention to be closely fitted in engagement on a shoe, thereby eliminating any play or loosenessof fit and enabling the wearer to be virtually unaware that the protector is in place.

The first side portion 14 has a tab portion 26 extending therefrom and integrally formed therewith. The tab portion 26 extends from the bottom portion of the vamp section 22 on the protector, and as illustrated in FIGURE 1, the tab portion 26 is wrapped about the bottom of the shoe in order to fasten the protector on the shoe. The tab portion 26 includes a snap 28, and the second side portion 16 includes a similar snap 30. Thus, it may be seen that the tab portion is wrapped about the shoe and the snaps are fastened together to provide secure attachment to the shoe.

A second tab fastener 32 extends from the toe area 24 of the first side portion 12 and is formed integrally therewith. The tab 32 includes a snap fastener 34, and the second side portion includes a snap fastener 36 thereby enabling the tab fastener 32 to be wrapped about the toe of the shoe as illustrated in FIGURE 1 and fastened to secure the toe portion 24 of the protector on the shoe.

It may be observed in FIGURE 1, when the protector is secured to a shoe, the heel regions and the vamp regions of the first and second side portions are in abutting relations-hip. In order to provide closing at these points first and second zippers 38 and 40 are provided. The zipper 38 includes a first zipper section 42' mounted on the heel region of the side portion 16. A second zipper section 44 is mounted at the heel region of the side por- -tior r14. A first zipper section 46 is mounted at the vamp region of the side portion 16. A second zipper section 48 is mounted at the vamp region of the side portion 14. Thus it may be seen in FIGURE 1 when the shoe protector 10 is mounted on a shoe, it is fastened thereto by means of tab 2-6 and 32 and zippers 38 and 40. It may be seen that the heel of the shoe 50 and substantially all of thesole of the shoe 52 is exposed-when the shoe protector is in place, thereby obviating any wear to the bottom of the shoe protector and allowing it to have a long period of usefulness.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A shoe protector adapted to be mounted on a shoe comprising a cover member, said cover member conformingly extending over substantially all of the shoe upper, said cover member having first closure means in the heel portion thereof, said cover member having second closure means in the vamp portion thereof, first tab means integral with said cover member and adapted for releasable fastening about the midregion of the shoe bottom, and second tab means integral with said cover member and adapted for releasable fastening about the toeregion of the shoe bottom whereby said protector is releasably secured to a shoe and in substantially covering relationship only with the shoe upper.

2. A shoe protector comprising a bifurcated cover member including first and second side portions shaped substantially in the form of ashoe, said side portions being joined only at the toe-region, first tab fastening means integrally formed with said first side portion, second tab fastening means integrally formed with said first side portion, and a plurality of snap fasteners mounted on said second side portion for connection with said first and second tab fastening means whereby said protector may be releasably mounted on a shoe.

The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said side portions are substantially fiat members of flexible material for engageable wrapping about a shoe, said side portions being in abutting relationship when so wrapped where-by only the upper toe, heel and vamp portions of said shoe are substantially covered.

The apparatus of claim 3 wherein said side portions include first closure means positioned at the vamp portions thereof, and second closure means positioned at the heel portions thereof whereby said side portions provide complete coverage for a shoe upper when mounted thereon. 5. The appanatus of claim 4 wherein first and second closure means comprise first and second zippers each having first and second sections, said first zipper sections being mounted on said first side portion, and said second zipper sections being mounted on said second side portion.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein said first side portion includes a flap member for effectively closing said abutment.

Claims

1. A SHOE PROTECTOR ADAPTED TO BE MOUNTED ON A SHOE COMPRISING A COVER MEMBER, SAID COVER MEMBER CONFORMINGLY EXTENDING OVER SUBSTANTIALLY ALL OF THE SHOE UPPER, SAID COVER MEMBER HAVING FIRST CLOSURE MEANS IN THE HEEL PORTION THEREOF, SAID COVER MEMBER HAVING SECOND CLOSURE MEANS IN THE VAMP PORTION THEREOF, FIRST TAB MEANS INTEGRAL WITH SAID COVER MEMBER AND ADAPTED FOR RELEASABLE FASTENING ABOUT THE MID-REGION OF THE SHOE BOT-
