Description

(No Model.)
H. ALBRECHT.
COMBINED SWING AND EXEBOISING APPARATUS.
Patented Aug. 18,1885.
WITNESSES:
ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PnTnNT HERMANN ALBRECHT, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED SWING AND EXERCISING APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 324,513, dated August 18, 1885.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN ALBRECHT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in a Combined Swing and Exercising Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a combined swing and exercising apparatus that can be readily attached'to the door-frame and used by children for exercising purposes; and the invention consists of knotted ropes that are suspended from screw eyes or hooks secured to the jambs of the door-casing, said suspension-ropcs being provided with snap-hooks at both ends, a swing, or rings, or a horizontal bar, or any other exercising device being attached to the lower hooks. The suspensionropes may be adjusted to different heights by passing them through the sup porting-eyes and fastening the upper hooks to one of the knots in the cords. The ropes are provided with reenforcing sleeves, of leather, at the points where they are in contact with the suspension eyes or rings.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of my improved exercising apparatus, showing the same arranged as a swing. Fig. 2 is a side view of theswing detached from the suspension-cords. Figs. 3 and 4 show the suspension'ropes ar ranged, respectively, with a horizontal bar and rings; and Fig. 5 is a detail side view of the upper part of a suspension-rope drawn on a larger scale and showing the adjustable connection of the rope with the suspension-eye.
Similar lettersof reference indicate corresponding parts.
A in the drawings represents the suspensionropes of my exercising apparatus. The suspension-ropes A are provided at the upper .ends with snap-hooks cthat is to say, with hooks having a guardspring or with any other safety device, so that the hook cannot detach itself. The suspension-ropes a a are attached by the snap-hooks to fixed screw eyes or rings 2) b, that are screwed into the jambs of the door-casing B. The suspension-ropes A are knotted at proper intervals for the purpose of admitting theiradj ustment forlarger or smaller children, which adjustment is accomplished by detaching the snap-hooks a a, passing them through the eyes b b, and fastening them below one of the knots a a, as shown in Fig. 5. The suspensionropes are provided at the points where they rest on the suspension eyes b, after adjustment, with reenforcing sleeves (1 of leather or other suitable material, by which the injuring and weakening of the suspensionropes by friction with the eyes 12 bis prevented. The lower ends of the suspension-ropes A are also provided with snap-hooks d, by which connection is formed with a swing, G, or with a horizontal bar, D, or ring-shaped handles E E, as shown in Figs. 1, 3, aud t.
The construction of the swing O is showniu Fig. 2, but any other construction may be used, provided it is made simple enough so that the whole apparatus can be furnished at a low price in connection with the different parts.
The whole device forms a combined exercising apparatus by which children can exercise in the room, the parts being of simple and cheap construction, so as to be within the reach of every family of children.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of a door-casing having fixed screw eyes or rings, knotted suspensionropes having safety hooks at the upper and lower ends and reenforcing sleeves between the knots, and a detachable swing or other exercising apparatus attached to the lower ends of the ropes, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HERMANN ALBRECHT.
