To all whom 25 may concern:

Be it known that I, AUGUsT HEINE, of Silver Creek, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothing for Bolting- Reels, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in the wire-cloth used for covering rotary bolting-reels, and has for its object to facilitate the attachment of the cloth to the ends of the reel-frame, and to render the connection of the wire-cloth with the reel-frame more secure and durable than heretofore. The wirecloth for rotary reels is usually provided at its ends with strips of ticking or other strong cloth, which are cemented or otherwise connected to the wire-cloth, and which receive the eyelets or other fastening devices, whereby the clothing is secured to the heads of the reel-frame. These strips of ticking frequently become detached from the wire-cloth, whereby rents or openings are formed in the clothing, which permit the escape of unbolted material through the clothing. The repairing of these rents is attended with considerable difficulty.

The object of my invention is to remedy this defect; and it consists in providing the clothing with end strips of fibrous material, which is interwoven with the wire-cloth and with a tightlongitudinal joint, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of the clothing of a cylindrical bolting-reel provided with my improvenient. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the clothing. 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the clothing. Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the longitudinal joint.

A represents the body ofthe wire-cloth,com posed of warp-wires c and filling-wires c', intcrlocked in the usual manner.

B represents the endstrips or selvoges formed on the wire-cloth, and composed of the iillingwires a. and warp-threads b, of cotton or other iilorous material, which are interlocked with the filling-wires, either singly or in groups, as represented. These fibrous warp-threads form, in connection with the filling-wires, a

strong and exible selvage, which is an integral part of the wire-cloth and cannot become detached therefrom. The end strips, B, permit the ready attachment of eyelets or hooks c, or other fastening devices, which become rmly attached to the wire-cloth by securing them to theV end strips. The latter extend ciroumferentiaily around the reel at the ends thereof in the direction in which the wire-cloth is bent or curved, and form strong and reliable bands for attaching the clothing to the heads of the reel-frame C.

The longitudinal edges of the wire-cloth are doubled back on their under sides, as shown at d, and between these lower portions, d, and the outer wire-cloth, A, areinserted strips D, of ticking or other strong cloth, which are secured to the wire-cloth by eyeleted hooks or rivets e, which pass through the two thicknesses of wireclcth and the intervening strip of ticking. Theinner portions, f, ofthe strips D, which project beyond the bent portions d of wire-cloth, form overlapping ila-ps, which cover the longitudinal joint of the clothing, and the doubled portions of the wire-cloth with the intervening ticking form strong longitudinal edges on the clothing. These edges are secured together by a lacingcord, g, passed around the hooks e.

l claim as my invention- .1. A wire-clothing for bolting-reels, composed of a body woven of wire and end bands composed of fibrous threads which are interwoven with the Wires of the body, fastenings applied to said end bands, whereby the ends of the clothing are secured to the heads of the reel-frame, and a longitudinal joint, whereby the longitudinal edges ofthe body are secured to complete the clothing, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination, with the body of wirecloth having its longitudinal edges doubled back on its under side, of strips of strong cloth secured between the two thicknesses of wire-cloth and provided on the inner side of the wire-cloth with overlapping iiaps, which cover the joint, substantially as set forth.
