P. G, MOORE.'
BUSTLB.
Paten-ted Aug, 4, 1885.
In vennr:
UNITED STATES Partnr Ormes..
FABNSVOBTH G. MOORE, OF BROOKLYN, YORK.
BUSTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 323.519, dated August 4, 1885.
(No model.)
T @ZZ whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, FARNswoRTH G. Moons, oi the city of' Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bustles, of which the following is a specification.
ln the drawings, Figure 1 is afaee view of my improved bustle. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view. Fig. 3 shows the dat springplates or strips.
A are two nia-in strips or flat plates of steel, brass, or other metal, rubber, or other suitable material of sufficient thickness, width, and length. each strip having a series of perforations, l, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, to provide holes for the reception of rivets, by which the varions partsare secured to these strips or plates. The strips A are preferably nearer together at top than at the bottom, as shown.
B and C are zigzag wires, by which the strips or plates A are secured together, the ends of the wires being passed through their respective pert'orations l 1 and 2 2, and riveted ou the opposite side thereof..
D D, E, F F, G, and H are strips or plates of similar material to the strips A. The strips D D are crossed and secured at their upper ends to the strips A by the riveted ends of the wire B, and at their lower ends by rivets passed through the perforations 4 4. The strip E is riveted through perforations 8 8 to the strips D D, near their upper ends, to formv a brace. The strips F F are crossed and secured at their lower ends to the strips by the riveted ends of the vlower wire, O, and at their upper ends by rivets passed through the perforations 3 3, these upper ends crossing the lower ends oi' the strips D D. The lower ends of the niain strips are secured together by the strip G, riveted thereto through said perforati ons 5 5.
H H are the short strips, secured by rivets passed through the perforations 6 7 6 7, and retaining the usual waistband, J.
This construction forms a simple and substantial bustle, veryT light and rm, yielding quickly when compressed, and readily assuming its normal condition when released.
The ends of the strips D D, F F, and G are bent, so as to lie flat against the strips A. The wires B and C may be of any suitable material.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A bustle consisting of main strips A A, upper zigzag wire, B, lower zigzag wire, O, crosse-d and bowed strips D D and F F, and bowed strip G at the bottom, substantially as set forth.
2. A bustle consisting of main strips A A, upper zigzag wire, B, lower zigzag wire, O, crossed and bowed strips D D and F F, bottoni bowed strip, G, and bracestrip E, secured to the strips D D, substantially as set forth.
3. A bustle consisting of main strips A A, each strip having a series of perforations, l, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, upper zigzag wire, B, secured at the perforations l l, lower zigzag wire, O, secured at the perforations 2 2, crossed and bowed strips D D, riveted at l 1 and 4 4, crossed and bowed strips F F, riveted at 2 2 and 3 3, bottoni bowed strip, G, riveted at 5 5, brace-strip E, riveted at 8 8 to said strips D D, waistband J, and short strips H H, riveted at 6 7 6 7, to secure the waistband, substantially as set forth.
Dated December 1S, 1884.
