XVILLIAM M. CLOWV, OF EAST W'HEATLAND, ILLINOIS.
WIRE-FENCE STAY.
QPECIFIGATIQIRT forming part of Letters Patent No. 323,399, dated August 4-, 1885.
Application filed December 9, 1884.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM M. GLOW, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at East lVheatland, in the county of NVill and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVire Fence Stays, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
Figure l is a perspective View, and Fig. 2 is a front view.
This invention relates to certain improvements in wirefence stays for supporting and staying the wires of a wire fence between the fence-posts, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification and claim.
Referring to the drawings, S shows the body of the stay proper, formed of a piece of Wire and provided with a series of crinips, B and 1). The large crimps B are formed in the body wire or stay proper for the reception of the sirandwvires of the fence, and the shorter crimps D are formed in the body-wire between the orimps B, and arranged to stand at an angle from the criinps B and in alternate op posite directions from each other. The body The short criinps I) serve to hold (No model.)
the lock-wire I in its proper position, as shown, to lock the fencewires \V in the criinps B.
The lock-wire Pand wire S are formed of a single piece of wire having at the upper end the coil c,fo1ming a spring to enable the lockwire to be more readily applied to the stay proper, which is done by weaving it in between the alternate body portions S and crirnps from the top downward after the fencewires are placed in the crimps B, as shown.
The dotted lines in Fig. 1 show the position of the lock-wire P before it is applied to the stay-wire proper, as stated and shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
The stay for wire fences, comprising the body portion S, having crimps or bends B formed therein at intervals along its length, the portions between said crimps being alternately bent to one side and having crimps or bends D, the coil 0 at the top of said body portion, and the lock-wire projecting from said coil and adapted to be interlaced with 5 the crimps B and D, substan tially as described.
