Description

(N0 Mode-1.)
G. D. WATERS.
CLAMP FUR EAVES TROUGHS.
No. 322,222. atented July 14,1885.
WITNESS Attorney UNIT D. STATES PATENT O FICE.
GEORGE D. WATERS, or OEDARVALE, KANSAS.
CLAMP FOR EAVES-TROUGHS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,222, dated July 14, 1885.
Application filed May 9,1885. (N0 modelfi .To all whom it may concern:
of the invention, which will, enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved device for holding or clamping the sheets of tin or other metal used in making gutters or eavestroughs in an advantageous position to be soldered or joined, and which may be so constructed as to be adjustable to any size gutter. j
The device is simple and efficacious in its method of operation, as will be seen from the accompanying drawings and the following description.
Referring to the figures, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved clamping device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.
Likeletters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A designates the wooden frame or box used to hold the gutter G, which box is curved upon its upper side to correspond with the shape of the gutter G, which it is intended to receive while it is being clamped for soldering or jointing.
B is the metallic yoke or cross-bar bent at the points I) I), and, having the descending arms 0 0 parallel and in juxtaposition to the sides of the box or frame A, and is firmly secured thereto by small thumb-screws a capass ing through screw-threaded holesin said arms and into the metallic plates d d on the sides of the box A. The eyebolt passes through the metallic bar B at its central portion, and continues on looselythrough the brace E, and into but not through the brace F of the clamping device proper, K. This. is composed of the straight cross -brace E and the curved brace F, which projects inwardly and conforms to the shape of the gutter or eavestrough G. These metallic braces are made in one piece, and are, when thus formed, in the shape of a semicircle, and its diameter, as shown in Fig. 2. The clamp Kis guided and forced in itsdescent to its bed upon the gutter by means of eyebolt D, and the metallic pins H H, serving as a guide for the clamp, are fastened in the cross-bar B on each side of the screw D, and pass loosely through holes in the cross-brace E of the clamp K. nut'l, placed on screw-threads of the eyebolt D, and directly underneath the brace E, serves The the purpose of raising the clamp K when it is desired to remove the seams of tin or other material used in making eaves-troughs.
J designates the seam of the gutter Gto be soldered or jointed. A
The operation of my invention is as follows: i
The yoke or metallic cross-bar having. been attached to the sides of the box, the joints of the metal to be soldered are adjusted in the trough of the box, and the clamp K forced down and raised by means of the eyebolt D and nut I, the pins H serving to guide the clamp K in its descent and ascent. The operator then solders the seam or joint, and raises the clamp to allow the gutter to be slid along to another seam.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi 1. A clamping device for gutters or eavestroughs composed of a semicircular-shaped clamp,K, in combination with the eyebolt D, yoke B, thumb-screws a a, plates cl d, box A, and guiding-pins H, arranged to operate substantially as set forthand described.
2 A clamping device for gutters and eaves the eyebolt D, nut I, yoke 13, and thumbscrews a a, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE D. WATERS.
