SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 321,188, dated June 30, 1885.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE BURDET Gasli- DAY, a citizen of the United States, residing in Hudson township, in the county of La Porte and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain improvements in plows having reversible cuttingedges, and has for its object to produce a I 5 combined reversible shin or cutter and point, and a reversible wing to be used in combination with the said combined cutter and point.
It consists in certain novel construction and arrangement of the various parts, and of the devices for attaching the same to the standard, all of which I will now proceed to point out and describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective of a plow embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a side eleya tion; Fig. 3, a front elevation with the reversible parts removed; Fig. 4C, a perspective of the removable wing; Fig. 5, a perspective of the removable combined cutter and point,
and Fig. 6 a detail showing the. under side of the wing-bearing.
Referring to said drawings, A represents the standard; B, the landside, and O, the moldv board, the lower edge of the mold-board form- 3 5 ing a shoulder against which the wing or share abuts, as hereinafter described.
D is a reversible combined cutter and point having two diagonally-opposite cutting-edges, d d, and two wearing faces, at d, combined and converging to a common point, e
a is a groove on the upper side of the standard, between the mold-board and landside, one side of said groove being perpendicular, conforming to the shape of the sides d d of the cutter, the other side of the groove conforming to the shape of the Wearing faces of the cutter.
The upper end of the combined cutter and point is provided with a V-shaped notch, f,
having projecting angular edges 6 Said notch engages with a' correspondingly-shaped shoulder, A, on the standard, having angular grooves a in its edges. This shoulder forms the main bearing for the combined cutter and point.
When adjusted the inner side of the cutter rests against the landside-edge of the moldboard, and its wearing face conforms to the lines of the mold-board and forms a continuation of the same, the outer side of said cutter being in a plane with and forming a continuation of the lardside, the upper edge of the landside conforming to curve of the cutter. The face of the cutter not in use rests in the groove on the standard. The point e extends down over the landside end of the wing-bearing and forms the plow-point.

F is a wedge-shaped bearing on the lower part of the standard,extcnding from the point to the rear end of the lower line of the moldboard. ff are shoulders on the under side of the bearing F. The lower line of the moldboard forms a shoulder on the upper side of the bearing F, the same distance from its 8 5 edge as the shoulders ff. f is a notch near the center of the bearing. f" is a bolt-hole, andf a notch, near the forward end of the bearing.
-G is a hollow reversible wing having two 0 opposite wearing faces, its ends being open. Said wing fits on the bearing F, and is held in place by a hook-bolt, g, hooked on the pin g, passing up through the openingffland held in place by a suitable nut. The upper edge of 5 the wing fits snugly against the lower edge of the mold-board. When adjusted, the upper forward corner of the wing projects over the face of the cutter and fits in the triangular recess on the wearing face of said cutter and 10o securely locks the same in position, the upper end of the combined cutter and point being secured by the V-shaped notch engaging with the shoulder A on the standard.
In the construction I have described I produce a simple, strong, and durable plow having reversible cutting-edges and a combined reversible cutter and plow-point, the bearing-surfaces of said reversible parts being independent of their wearing faces, thus securing greater nicety of adjustment than when the face not in use is made to act as a bearing. My plow has a further advantage in that it requires but few bolts to secure the various parts in place, and these so arranged that they are out of the way and do not drag in the furrow.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In aplow, a reversible combined cutter and point, having two cuttingedges and two corresponding converging faces continued to a common point, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a plow, the combination, with the standard and mold-board, of a reversible com- Llned cutter and point secured to the standard, and having two cutting-edges and opposite corresponding and converging faces continued to a common point, and presenting when either face is in use a point, a cuttingedge, and a wearing face conforming to and forming a continuation of the mold-board, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a plow, the combination, with the standard, mold-board, and landside, of a reversible combined cutter and point secured to the standard, and presenting when either face is in use a point, a cutting-edge, and a surface conforming to and forming a continuation of the mold'board, and a surface conforming to and forming a continuation of the landside, substantially as shown and described.
4. In a plow, a standard, a mold-board, and a reversible combined cutter and point secured to the standard,in combination with a removable wing operating when in position to overlap the combined. cutter and point and positively lock the same in place, substantially as shown and described.
5. In a plow, a mold-board, a standard havcutter and point provided with the V-shaped notch f and triangular recesses, 12, and a reversible wing operating when in position to engage with one of the recesses e and lock the combined cutter and point in place, substantially as shown and described.
7. In a plow, a mold-board, astandard having a V-shaped shoulder, A, a reversible combined cutter and point having a 'V-shaped notch, f, interlocking with the shoulder on the standard, in combination with a hollow reversible wing secured on a suitable bearing on the standard and operating when in position to interlock with the combined cutter and point and hold the same in place, substantially as shown and described.
