V. RATHKNEGHT.
NURSERY CHAIR AND GARRIAGE.
No. 320,587. Patented June 23, 1885.
. Jive/for:
UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
VICTOR ItATHKNECHI, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NURSERY CHAIR AND CARRIAGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,587, dated June 23, 1885.
Application filed September 3, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, VICTOR RATHKNEOHT, of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Chair and Carriage for Children, which improvement is fully set forth and described in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention, showing it in the position to be used as a chair. Fig. 2 is also a side elevation, showing the position when used as a carriage.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
This invention relates to childrens chairs which are adapted to be used as carriages.
The nature of said invention consists in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, A A represent cross-legs pivoted to each other, as at a. The seat C is pivoted to back leg, A, and rests upon the top of front leg, A, which are prevented from opening or unfolding by the cleat c. The foot-rest, B, is hinged to the under side of the seat C, and, while used as a chair,
hangs in a convenient position.
When used as a carriage, the seat C being raised releases the cleat c and legs A, which then extend outwardly, forming the support D for the foot-rest B, to keep seat C in line with foot-rest B.
E is aheavy wire guide or stop bent in circular form, passing freely through a slot, d, in the round of leg A, and attached to front end of foot-rest B to keep leg A from spreading. By lifting the seat C the legs unfold and the parts resume their normal position.
F represents axles, upon which are mounted wheels f, supporting the legs of the chair, making a substantial childs carraige.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with pivoted legs A A, seat C, hinged to leg A only, foot-rest B, hinged to said seat, and slotted strip E, secured to the foot-rest and to a round of log. A, as set forth.
2. The combination, with pivoted legs A A, of seat C, hinged to leg A and provided on its bottom with cleat c, as set forth.
3. The combination, with pivoted legs A A, the latter provided with an enlarged free and upper end, of seat C, hinged to leg A, foot-rest B, hinged to the seat, and connecting-strip E, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VICTOR RATHKNECHT.

RICHARD W. HILL, FRANK S. BLANOHARD.
