Description

Aug. 10, 1965 REMOVABLE PROTECTIVE COVER FOR WATER FIXTURES Filed Dec. 18, 1962 H27 ,2 0 INVENTOR.
MMJ JOSEPH 6R1. 7'0
J. GRETO 3,199,121
United States Patent 3,199,121 REMGVABLE PROTECTIVE COVER FOR WATER FIXS Joseph Greta, 31 Holland St., Harrison, NY. Filed Dec. 18, 1962, Ser. No. 245,467 2 Claims. (13]. 4-491) This invention relates to a removable, protective cover for protruding water fixtures appurtenant to an installed bathtub.
It comprises a removable cushioned enclosure which is placed over the usual water fixtures which protrude from a bathroom well over the adjacent bathtub and is supported by said fixtures. Its function is to prevent accidental forcible contact of the bathtub user with the protruding water fixtures.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing the cover in position.
FIG. 2 is an elevation of the front of the cover, a portion being removed to provide a view of the inside.
FIG. 3 is an elevation of a side of the cover.
FIG. 4 is a plan view of the top of the cover.
FIG. 5 is an elevation of the rear of the cover.
FIG. 6 is a modified form of the front of the cover showing hand holes in line with the water fixtures.
FIG. 7 is a fragmentary side view of a protruding water valve upon which the cover rests.
Referring to the drawings:
5 designates the cover generally, which comprises front 20, sides 21, 22, top 23 and a cross member 25. Guides 16, 17, are respectively provided on the interior surfaces of sides 21, 22, of cover 5, and slots 18, 19, are formed in cross member 25 receiving guides 16, fit, enabling cross member and trip lever 12, as shown in FIGS. 2, 6.
Cover 5 is installed by placing it over water fixtures 10, 11, 12, with recesses 30 of cross member 25 rethe bathroom, as seen 25 is moved on guides 16, 17, to the proper position to accomplish this contact of the back edges of cover 5 with the wall, in which position it would be diflicult to dislodge cover 5 by accidental forcible contact of the bath user with the cover.
Trip lever 12 operates to open or close the waste opening of the bath tub. Water valves 10, 11, control, respectively, the hot and cold water supply which discharges into tub 6 through nozzle 15.
Where a shower is installed for use with the bath tub, separate hot and cold Water valves will be installed usually above valves and 11 and in vertical alignment therewith. In such case cover 5 when installed will be placed upon such upper valves, and additional hand holes for the lower valves 10, 11, may be provided.
FIG. 7 shows a portion of stem 26 of one of the protruding water valves 10, 11. Escutcheon plate 24 is Cross member 24, cover 5 is in contact with bathroom wall 7.
It is the practice to install water valves 10, 11, controlling the hot and cold water supply to the tub, and the intervening trip lever 12, in horizontal alignment and at a fixed uniform distance apart, which likewise is the practice with respect to the valves controlling the water supply to the shower, if the latter is included. The spacing of recesses 30 of cross member 25 will conform to that uniform spacing.
Hand holes 40, FIG. 6, permit access to water valves 10, 11, for adjustment during the course of bathing, without the necessity of removing cover 5.
The entire exterior surface of cover 5 is composed of a substantial cushioning material 35, such for instance as sponge rubber, plastic rubber or other suitable cushioning material, which may be incorporated in the cover structure by a moulding or other process, or may be otherwise applied to cover 5.
The term water fixtures as employed herein and in the appended claims, shall be taken to include the stems of said water valves and trip lever, and any enclosures of the stems lying between the wall from which said valves and trip lever protrude and the handles thereof.
The drawings herein show vention and changes and modifications may be made Without departing from the scope of this invention.
