NITED STATES ATENT HANDLE FOR CHILDRENS CARRIAGES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 319,902. dated June 9, 1885.
Application filed December 6, 1884. (No model.)
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WINFIELD S. GROVE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Handles for Childrens Oarriages, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a rear view of a portion of a handle for a childs carriage embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
My invention consists of means for attaching the side arms and cross-pieces of the handle of a childs carriage, whereby they are firmly and reliably connected, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the side arms, and B the cross-piece or grasping portion, of the handle of a childs carriage.
G represents sheet-metal eyes, each of the form of an annulus, a, and legs b, parallel, or nearly so. The cross-piece B passes through the annulus a, and the side arms, A, are embraced on opposite sides by the legs b.
D represents bands or rings which encircle the legs I), and E represents lips on the ends of the legs as abutments for the bands D.
Screws 0 are passed through the band D and legs 1) into the side arms, A, and the legs may also be secured to said arms by screws d independent of the screws 0.
It will be seen that the eyes firmly connect the side armsand cross-bar of the handle, and as said eyes are formed of sheet metal they may be strained on the parts they embrace, and thus draw the same tightly together.
The bands D also encircle the legs and retain the same in position, preventing separation thereof, and longitudinal draft on the legs is restrained by the lips E, which, having the securely-connected bands abutting against the same, serve to increase the security of connection of the legs wit-h the side arms, the effect of which is a strong and durable attachment of the cross-bar with the side arms.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r 1. A handle of a childs carriage, in combination with eyes formed with parallel legs connecting the side arms and crossbar of said lus, a, parallel legs b, and lips E, side arms,A,
and band D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
