N. PErERs, Pnewumognpher, wmmgcon, n4 c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK J. GUTE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DEVIC E FOR ,EXH BITING COLLARS,A SCARFS, Sao.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 319,406, dated June 2,1885.
Application iilcd February 6, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK J. GUTH, a citi` zen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook andl State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for EXhibitingOollars, Scarfs, Snc., of which the following is a specification, to Wit:
This invention relates to an improvement in devices for displaying collars and scarfs; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construe tion and arrangement of the same, substantially as will be hereinafter more, fully set forth and claimed.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describeits construction and operation, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of the device with a collar in position. Fig. 2 is a `front view of the clamping device, and Fig. 3 is a central vertical section of the same.
A represents a metal plate or shield-of any side with a spring-actuated clip, B, hinged in' a projection lor lug, b, and having a thumbpiece, b', and two horns, b2, which bear upon the rear side of the horns a of the shield and clamp the collar firmly in position. The whole is mounted in a spindle or rod, C, which is adjustable vertically in a hollow standard, C', having a suitable foot or base, as shown in Fig. l.
This device is intended for use in Windows or showcases, to display collars and scarfs in their natural position. The ends of the collar are brought together and secured by a button, the shank of which also passes through the hole a2 of the shield, and the sides of the collar are clamped between the fingers or horns a b2, and held in the same position assumed when in use. The scarf is then adjusted to place, and the shield being bent to about the shape assumed by a shirt'bosom, it is held in proper position.
The scarf or collar may be exhibited either singly or together, and the standard being an extension one, many different articles may be shown to advantage in rows, one behind the other, each successive one being lifted above the other to better exhibit it.
It is evident that shirts may also be displayed by this device and given any desired angle by raising or lowering the standard, one end of the shirt resting on the show-case, and the other grasped and held up by the clamp.
It is obvious that the number of bearing or clamping points may be varied at pleasure and other modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, which is to hold the article to be displayed in its natural position and show it to the best advantage, and this may be donc equally well by plates clamping all the way from corner to corner, instead of being cut away, as shown, to form clamping-fingers, and this I regard as the equivalent of my construction, the horns or fingers being only bearing-points for clamping purposes.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a device for exhibiting collars, a shield or plate having two bearing ingers or horns, in combination with a springclip `arranged upon its rear side, also provided with clamping-points, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a device for exhibiting collars, a plate or frame formed or provided with clamping fingers at its upper corners and a buttonhole in its center, in combination with a springclip hinged upon it, and a supporting stand ard or base, substantially as and for `the purpose set forth.
3. The plate A, formed with horns c, projection a', and hole a2, in combination with the spring-clip B, having bearing-horns b2, and the rod C, hollow standard C', and a base or foot, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK JI. GUTH.
