June 1965 B. KURZYNIEC CONTOUR WRAP-'AROUND PENIL SLIM SKIRT 2 SheetS-Sheet 2 Filed Oct. 31, 1962 BY 37 &
ATTORNEY United States Patent O 3,189,920 CONTOUR WRAP-A-ROUND PENCIL SLIM SllRT Balbina Ku'zyniec, 18316 Germain St., Northridge, Calif. Filed Oct. '31, 1962, Ser. No. %4,376 1 claim. (CI. 2-211) This invention pertains to wearing apparel and more especially to a contour wrap-around pencil slim skirt.
The advantage of a contour wrap-around pencil slim skirt in general are well recognized in particular that such a garment is not as limited as to the function that it could be worn at nor to the amount of maneuverability the wearer will have without departing from the pencil slim look. Although wrap-around skirts have been used to some advantage, their fastening means have been principally to fasten the skirt on the wearer. The contour wrap-around pencil slim skirt of this invention is so constructed that the fastening means not only fasten the skirt on the wearer but also imparts -a distinctive and ornamental eifect to the skirt and is a major factor in shaping the skirt and holding the pencil slim look.
An object of this invention is to provide a contour wrap-around pencil slim skirt which can be easily positioned on the body by the Wearer and which keeps its original size and style irrespective of the activity 'of the wearer.
Another object of this invention is to provide a contour wrap-around pencil slim skirt which is easily and economically constructed.
A further object of this invention is to provide a contour wrap-around pencil slim skirt which is easily and economically laundered and altered.
Other and further objects and advantages of this invention will be pointed out in the following more defailed description, and by reference to the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIGURE 1 is an exterior surface of a sectional drawing of my contour wrap-around pencil slim skirt showing the skirt separated at the side seams for a better conception of the garment.
FIGURE 2 is an installation of a perspective view of my contour wrap-around pencil slim skirt showing the front View and the first stage of application and the position of the underlaying panel with its pocket and button position.
FIGURE 3 is a perspective View of my contour wraparound pencil slim skirt showing the front View and the second stage of application with the fastening at the side front and the overlapping end section.
FIGURE 4 is a perspective View of my contour wraparound pencil slim skirt showing the back View and the final stage of application with the side back fastening.
FIGURE 1 is an illustration of the separate sections a sectional drawing of the skirt 5 comprising of panels 6, 7 and 8. The front panel 6 is cut so that a side back extension beyond line 9-9 is included in the front panel 6 at one side. The side front edge 10 is cut down approximately 4 inches dropping the remainder of the front 6 and the side back extension to the upper hip height 25. The seam at the waist 11 is finished without a waist band, but extends to the height of the finished waist band. A waist band may be used here but for optimum effects it may be ornitted. The distance 12 is three quarters of the front waist measurement, the front waist measurement being the distance taken from side seam to side seam. Starting at the hemline 13 at the point 14, which is one half the distance between the side seam 15 and the outer edge of the side back extension 9-9, of the front panel 6, the hemline 13 is gradually dropped or cut longer approximately one inch to 19 which is the finished hemline at the seamed outer edge of the side back extension' 9-9 of the front panel 6. Buttonholes &139,92@ Patented June 22, 1965 20 and 21 -are formed in the usual manner on the front panel 6 and on the side back extension 9-9. The side seam 15 is shaped so that a contour shape is formed when the side back seams are joined. The back panel 7 is cut to extend from side seam to side seam, however for manufacturing purposes a center seam may be used. The side seams 16 and 17 are shaped in the same manner as the side seam 15 of the front panel 16.
For a more contour fit a waist band 22 is attached to the body portion of the back panel 7 extending from side seam to side seam, across the back, being sewed in at the side seams. The back fastening is accomplished by buttons Zla being attached to the back panel 7 at one quarter of the distance 29. The height of the buttons 21a is determined by the distance from the hem 1=3 at the seamed outer edge 19 of the back extension 9-9 of the front panel 6, to the buttonholes 21. The half front panel 8 of the skirt 5 is cut to extend one half the distance across the front of the body from the side seam 18 to the center front of the body. The half front panel 8 is constructed without a waist band in the same manner as waist 11 'of the front panel 6. A pocket 24' is attached to the half front panel 8 approximately six inches from the finished waistline seam 26. The pocket 24 may vary in size, shape or method of application. Buttons 2ll are positioned on the half front panel 8 to coincide with the buttonholes 20 of the front panel 6. The buttons Zila are brought in from the center front seamed edge 27 to a point such that when the skirt 5 is buttoned at Ztla by buttonholes 20 the amount of the half front under panel 8 that will be exposed above the cut down portion 25 of the front panel 6 will be approxirnately one half of the half front panel 8 at the upper portion of the panel at 23. The side seam 18 is shaped in the same manner as the side seam 15 of the front panel 6.
The skirt 5 is so styled and sized that in the wearing the skirt 5 will be so positioned that the buttonholes 20 will coincide with the buttons 20a and the buttonholes 21 will coincide with the buttons 21a. As clearly shown in FIGURES 2, 3, and 4, wherein is shown the front panel 6 and the side back extension 9-9 overlaps the half front under panel 8 and is fastened at buttons Za forming the fit at the waist and upper hipline. The side back extension 9-9 of the front panel 6 is then brought around the hip overlapping the side back of the back panel 7 and raised to align the buttonholes 21 with the buttons 21a. This aligns the dropped hemline at 19 with the hemline 13 thus bringing the hemline in toward the body creating a pencil slim look and ;also forming a shield eifect concealing the pocket 24 on the half front under panel 8 allowing the pocket 24 to be used freely without distorting the contour shape of the skirt. Also as clearly evident, the means of fastening the skirt becomes a design of the skirt and that there is complete and easy maneuverability in this pencil slim skirt.
Many alterations and changes can be made without departing from the spirit .and scope of this invention which is set forth in the appended claim which is to be construed as broadly as possible in View of the prior art.
I claim:
A contour wrap-around skirt comprising:
a back panel;
a front panel having front and overlying sections;
an underlying partial panel connected to said back panel and dimensioned to overlay a portion of the front of the body of the wearer;
said overlying panel section dimensioned to extend around the body of the wearer to overlay the said underlying panel and a minor portion of said back panel;
said back panel and underlying panel having an even waistline when the skirt is secured upon the wearer;
anes &20
said back and underlying panels having an even hemline when the skirt is secnred upon the wearer;
said front panel section and said overlying panel secand releasable securernent means for attaching said overlying panel section to said back panel, said securement means having a first portion carried by said back panel at a distance from said hemline, a second portion carried by said overlying panel section at a like distance from the hemline; said first portion being at a lesser distance from the waistband than said second portion when merely wrappcd in a natural fold around the Wearer, such that the overlying panel section must be raised to 'i bring the securement means portions into engagement and thus bring its hemline into alignment with said even hemline; said back and underlying partial panels having a hem line dimension substantially equal to their respective waistline dimensions; whereby, such raising of the hemline of said overlying portion eauses an inward force at the hemline area to contour the hemlne inwardly, and yet allowing the full freedom of expansion of the skirt in the hemline area characteristic of a Wrap-around skirt.
