Description

June 8, 1965 R. CERVENKA ACCORDION CASE MUSIC STAND Filed Jan. 9, 1963 ---I l I I I I I I I ma J m r 3,188,!i46 ACCGRDXUN (JASE MUSIC STAND Richard Cervenka, 1549 W. Sprague Road, Cleveland 41, tllhio Filed Jan. 9, 1963, Ser. No. 250,399 2 Claims. (Cl. 248-441) This invention relates to music stands, and more particularly to a stand of the portable ty-pe.
Nearly every musician has, at one time or another, desired some form of music stand that can be erected wherever he or she may be from the instruments carrying case. This is especially true when the musical instrument is such a large, heavy one that it limits the amount of equipment the musician can carry. The best example of this is the accordion.
It is, therefore, an object of this invention to provide an accordion case music stand that is formed by using the accordion case as the base for the stand, and then attaching certain collapsible light weight structure to the same for theactual holding of the music.
Another object of this invention is to provide an accordion case music standhaving but three separate parts which are normally carried'within the case when not in actual use.
Another object of this invention is to provide an accordion case music stand that can be readily adapted to any accordion case in a minimum of time and without the necessity of having to use any tools for its set-up.
Another object of this invention is to provide an accordion case music stand that can be manufactured and retailed at a price well within the reach of every accordion player.
Still another object of this invention is to provide an accordion case music stand that can readily be manufactured from any light weight material such as aluminum or even plastic, thereby adding little weight to the weight of the accordion as it is being carried from place to place.
Other and further objects and advantages of this accordion case music stand will be hereinafter described, and
i the novel features thereof defined in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a side view of this invention partly broken open to better show its internal structure.
FIGURE 2 is a pictorial View of this invention set up and ready for use. The music rack is shown in dash lines.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawing. 7
Having reference now to the drawing in detail, there is generally indicated by the character an accordion case having an opening in the top thereof in which is placed a nipple 6. A hollow tube 7, that is preferably bent as shown in FIGURE 2 of the accompanying drawing, has its lower end 8 provided with external threads 9 for 'engagernent with the internal threads of the aforesaid nipple 6 which is provided with a lock nut 10 for the locking in place of the aforesaid hollow tube 7. A music rack 11, which is shown in dash lines in FIGURE 2 of the accompanying drawing, is provided with a centrally located socket 12 on the underside thereof for the reception of the upper end 13 of the aforesaid hollow tube 7 which may be of a length that permits the aforesaid music rack to United States Patent 0 actually rest on the top of the accordion case. The top is characterized by the reference numeral 14 in both FIG- URES of the accompanying drawing. 5
Although not shown in the drawing, the hollow tube 7 may be so constructed from two separate pieces of tubing that one telescopes within the other, and is provided with a suitable means of locking the two tubes at any desired length, thereby providing a music stand which can not only be used when one is sitting down, but also when one is standing, no matter how tall the musician may be.
This invention is not to be limited to the accordion case but can also be adapted to any musicalinstnument case having at least one flat surface. The various parts of this invention can, of course, be manufactured from any desired material.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an accordion case music stand which accomplishes all of the objects of this invention, and others,
including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it will be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in'a limiting sense.
What I now claim as my invention is:
1. An accordion case music stand of the character described, comprising an accordion case having a flat surface which may be used as a base, a top opposite said flat surface, said case having an opening in the top thereof,
a nipple secured in said opening, said nipple adapted to receive a hollow tube and means of locking the lower end within the said nipple, and a music rack provided with a centrally located socket on the underside thereof adapted to receive the uppermost end of the said hollow tube.
2. An invention of the character described, comprising a musical instrument case, the said case having at least one flat side and an internally threaded nipple secured in an opening in the top of the said musical instrument case and diametrically opposite the said flat side of the musical instrument case which normally rests on the said flat side, and a hollow bent tube having external threads on the lower end thereof that is in engagement with the internal threads of the said nipple, and a lock nut adapted to the lower portion of the said hollow bent tube, the said lock nut providing means of firmly securing the said hollow bent tube in any desired position in the said internally threaded nipple, and a music rack having a centrally located hollow socket on the underside thereof for the reception of the upper end of the said hollow bent tube when the said invention is set up for use.
