Description

(No Model.)
Gr. E. BAUBLITS.
BRACKET. 7 No. 318,343. Patented May 19, 1885.
WITNESSES .dttorlwy UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE GEORGE E. BAUBLITS, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI.
BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 318,343, dated May 19, 1885.
Application filed August 22, 1884. (N0 model.)
To all. whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. BAUBLITS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at St. Joseph, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missouri, have inyented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in brackets for shelving, the object of my invention being to provide a bracket for the support of shelving, so that it can be readily attached to walls or other supports, and which will provide a means for adjusting the shelves; to which end my invention consists in combining with a fixed dovetailed support a bracket having an upper portion adapted to embrace the dovetail, and a clamp formed integral with or attached to the lower portion of the support for the shelf, by means of which the parts can be securely and adjustably attached to each other.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view, Fig. 2 a detail sectional View, and Fig. 3 a vertical sectional View.
Guide-strips A are secured at suitable intervals to a wall or other support by means of screws or fastening devices a, which pass through a rectangular plate, A, which may be independent or integral with the angular strip A. The face of this support is provided with notches or detents I), the movable shelfsupports 0 having at their inner ends jaws c, which embrace the guidestrips A and permit of the shelf-support being moved thereon. The lower portion of the bracket or shelf support is provided with a clamp, D, which embraces the strip A. The lower portion of the bracket adjacent to this clamp portion, which is formed thereon, is provided with a recess, 6, and a threaded opening, d, through which passes a set-screw, E, which set-screw is provided at its inner end with a catch -block, F, which catch-block is of the same configuration 5 as the notch 12 in the strip A.
By the construction hereinbefore described it will be readily seen that the strip A has a wide bearing-surface against the wall, and the same screws that secure the support to the 5 wall also attach the strip A to the support, and the shape of the jaw at the end of the bracket will not permit a sidewise movement.
lVhen it is desired to secure the bracket in a fixed position, it is adjusted to reach a point 6 opposite the notch b, when the set-screw is turned so as to throw the catch out of the recess into the notch b, and when the set-screw is further turned the rear portion of the slide will be pressed firmly against the rearside of 6 the strip A, thus making substantially a double fastening. p
I am aware that prior to my invention brackets for shelving have been provided with clasping-jaws, and a strip having a dete'nt-rack with which engages a pawl attached to the lower portion of the bracket, and I do not claim such as my invention; but
VVhatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is j 1. In combination with a supporting-strip, A A, having notches 1) formed therein, the movable bracket-support 0, having a clampingjaw, and'a catch, F, adapted to be placed in and out of engagement with the n'otches b by means of a set-screw, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with a bracket-strip having notches Z) formed therein, a shelf-support, G, with clasping-jaws c, and the clasp B, embracing the strip, and having a recess, 6, for the reception of a catch, F, which is attached to the end of a set-screw, substantially as shown, and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in 5 presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE E. BAUBLITS.
