Description

W. K. MILLER.
BLANK 'PORWROUGHT METAL OX SHOES.
No. 318,277. Patented May 19, 1885.
ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM K. MILLER, OF WHITNEYVILLE, ASSIGNOR TO WOODRUFF MILLER 85 CO., OE MOUNT CARMEL, CONNECTICUT.
BLANK' FOR WRQUGHT-METAL OX-SHOES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 318,277, dated May 19, 1885.
Appiicaiion filed July 25, 1884.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM K. MILLER, residing at Whitneyville,in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Art of Making Wrought-Metal Ox-Shoes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in blanks for wrought-metal o -shoes, the object being to cheapen the production of ox-shoes in quantities.
With these ends in view my invention consists in a blank containing the stock required for two shoes, and shaped to outline the curved toe ends of the shoes.
My invention further consists'in an ox shoe blank having certain features of novelty, as
' will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of one form which my improved blank may assume; and Fig. 2 is asimilar View of a pair of shoes developed from such a blank as they appear before separation.
The blank, A, chosen for illustration is designed for the production of a pair of shoes. It is straight and of uniform dimensions in its central portion, and shaped at its ends to the curved outline of the toe ends of the shoes. Fig. 2 of the drawings shows a pair of shoes, B and C, developed from ablankcorresponding to that shown in Fig. l of the drawings, and still united by a web, D,which is destroyed by their separation. As herein shown, the blank A is indented, as at E, on opposite sides and midway of its length. The indentations may, however,be dispensed with, if desired.
The blank shown and described is designed for the production of a pair of shoes which are virtually placed heel end to heel end in the blank. I would have it understood, however, that my invention comprehends all blanks containing the stock required for two shoes, and shaped to define the inner and outer faces of their curved toe ends without re- (No model.)
gard to the shape of theblank or to its adaptation to produce two right shoes or two left shoes, or a pair of shoes formed of one right shoe and one left shoe. My improved blank, whatever its form may be, is subjected in its entirety to forming operations with appropriate implements for simultaneously developing the shoes.
The forming of two shoes from a single blank and with a single set of implements, as comprehended by my invention, effects an important economy of time, labor, and outlay for implements and the repair of the same, and this for the reason that with my improved blank one series of forming operations is made to suffice for making two shoes, whereas heretofore a separate series of forming operations has been required for each shoe. Moreover, when the blank and implements are designed for forming a pair of shoes, the further economy is reached of saving the outlay for the construction and maintenance of a set of peculiar implements for right and left shoes, respectively.
Having fully set forth my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A blank containing the stock required for two ox-shoes, and shaped to define the inuer and outer faces of the curved toe ends of the shoes, substantially as set forth.
2. A blank containing the stock required for two ox-shoes, having its central portion essentially straight and its end shaped to the curved outline of the toe ends of the shoes, substantially as set forth.
3. A blank containing the stock required for two ox-shoes, and shaped to define the inner and outer faces of the curved toe ends of a pair of shoes, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribo ing witnesses.
\VM. K. MILLER.
