Description

J. '1. WALKER.
HORSESHOE-BLANKS.
No.170,609. Patented Nov. 30,1875.
a K W Attorney g UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES T. WALKER, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN HORSESHOE-BLANKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,609, dated November 30, 1875; application filed August '26, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, JAMES T. WALKER, 0 Albany, in the county of Alban y and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horseshoe-Blanks; and do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawin'gs and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to rolled blanks for horseshoes; and it consists in rolling or forming each blank with a longitudinal raised projection at or near the center, to be usedfor the purpose of a register to insure the blank being placed in its proper position in the bending-machine for bending, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
I11 order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a horseshoe-blank embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the center thereof.
A represents a horseshoe-blank rolled by machinery, with indentations a a for nail-holes.
At or about the center of this blank is formed, in rolling, a longitudinal raised projection, B, for the purpose of a stop or register to register the position of each blank in the bending-machine, thereby effecting a very great saving in the cost of manufacture of horseshocs. When when it is pressed down, it does not injure the edges of the shoe, as would be the case if located near either edge. I also make it of such form that when the shoe is pressed it shall drive down into the body of the shoe.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A horseshoe-blank formed with a longitudinal raised projection at or near the center, longitudinally and transversely, to form a register to insure its proper position in the bending-machine, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I a have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of August, 1875.
JAMES T. WALKER.
