M. WILLIAMS.
BAG HOLDER.
No. 317,906. Patented-MaylZ, 1885.
" INYENTOR M Y ATTORNEYS NITE 1.
STATES MARTIN WILLIAMS, OF ST. J OHNSVILLE, NEW YORK.
BAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,906, dated IvIay 12, 1885.
Application filed July 10,1884.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARTIN WILLIAMs, of St. J ohnsville, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My improved holder is intended specially for use with thrashingmachines, for holding the bags that receive the grain from the screens.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction, having the object to allow convenient attachment of the device to the machine at the required height and its ready removal, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in allthe figures.
Figure l is a side elevation, partly sectional, ofthe bag-holder complete. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the hopper. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bracket and spring-arms, and Fig. 4 is a face view of the holding-plate.
The holding-plate A, which is to be permanently attached to the frame of the machine or other support, is made with a number of T-shaped slots, a, for receiving the lugs of the bracket B, so that the latter can be secured to the plate at the desired height.
The bracket B is made with an upper T form lug, b, andlower straight log, 6, that engage the slots a of the holder, as shown in Fig. 1, thereby holding the bracket firmly, and allowing its ready removal. The arm of the bracket curves outward and under, terminating in a reverse curve, d, for use as hereinafter specified, and it is formed also with a straight up ward projectiomf.
The hopper O is formed tapering, as usual, and on its side is attached a plate having its ends bent outward to form lugs or flanges g g, the upper one of which is slotted, and the lower one forked to pass upon the portionf of the bracket, as shown in Fig. 1, so that the hopper is held firmly. The arm at f is tapering, so that the flanges 9 may bind tightly, and there may be a pin, as shown at h, to give additional support and prevent jamming. From the upper and outer part of the hopper, and within it, a brace, i, extends to near the (N0 model) lower edge at the portion next the bracket, the ends of the brace being firmly riveted, so as to prevent the hopper from being broken down by weight such as half-bushel measuresbeing placed upon it.
D is the stretcher for receiving the mouth of the bag, bent to form two arms, and with an eye, 70, at its mid-length. This stretcher is attached on the curved end d of the bracket by passing the eye over the curve while the stretcher is held nearly vertical, and then giving it a quarter-turn forward, which causes the eye to bind, as shown, so that the arms or ends of the stretcher are held at the sides of the hopper in position for retaining the mouth of the bag up around the bottom of the hopper, the mouth-edges of the bag being interposed between the arms of said stretcher and the sides of said hopper.
By adjusting the bracket up and down on plate A, the bottom of a bag of any length can be made to rest on the floor or ground,a'.1d the holder thus relieved of much of the weight. The holder can be readily applied and removed, and there are no set-screws nor loose catches to get lost or out of order.
1 Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a bag-holder, the bracket B, formed with curved end at and straight projection f, combined with a looped stretcher, D, a holding-plate, and the hopper, substantially as described.
2. In a bag-holder, the hopper 0, formed with slotted lugs 9, combined with bracket B, having projection f, and means for holding said bracket, substantially as described.
3. In a bag-holder, the hopper G and the stretcher D, having an eye or loop, 70, combined with bracket B, having a curved end, 01, for receiving the eye of the stretcher, and means for holding said bracket, substantially as described.
4. In a bag-holder, the removable hopper O and spring-stretcher D, bearing against the outer side of said hopper, in combination with an adjustable bracket and a fixed support, substantially as described.
