Description

March 1965 SADAO NAGASHIMA LIQUID POURING SPOUT Filed Jan. 4, 1963 IN VENIOR 5A 0/) 0 #464 5H IM A ATTORNEY United States Patent 3,173,588 LIQUID POURING SPOUT Sadao Nagashima, 4 Z-chome, Tabata Shin-machi, Kita-ku, Tokyo, Japan Filed Jan. 4, 1963, Ser. No. 249,437 6 Claims. (Cl. 222-479) This invention relates to a liquid pouring spout for containers so devised as to allow smooth inflow of air and outflow of liquid and to regulate the flow direction of the li uid.
This invention relates to the improvement of such kind of liquid pouring spout as has heretofore been used which had its air inflow passage and liquid outflow passage divided horizontally; in other words, it was defective in that the shape of the pouring spout made square in section, liquid flowed out filling the whole width of the pouring pipe even when a small quantity of it was poured and the flow width became wide making it not only inconvenient to pour liquid into a small vessel or a vessel of small calibre but also making the mouth of the pouring pipe liable to shake upwards and downwards.
This invention is an improvement eliminating the defects of the liquid pouring spout which has heretofore been used by making the lower part of the pouring pipe project out in an angular shape.
According to this invention, air inflow passages have been provided by vertically fixing division plates on both sides of the interior of the pouring pipe and connected with the air inflow passages of the pipe, making air flow in smoothly and liquid flow out calmly, at the same time preventing the mouth of the pouring pipe from shaking at the time of pouring due to the division plates which strengthen the pouring pipe. And it is convenient that due to the angular projection made in the center of the lower part of the pouring pipe, the outflow width becomes narrower when a small quantity of liquid flows out, and the outflow direction being fixed, there is no necessity of changing the outflow direction even if the outflow quantity is changed while pouring into a separate vessel, and in pouring into a vessel of small calibre, the outflow width can be changed by making an adjustment of the quantity of liquid to be poured. And because the pouring pipe is fixed aslant, all the liquid that has remained goes back again into the can, giving no fear that it may flow out or stick to the lid.
The novel features which are considered characteristic of the invention are set forth with particularity in the appended claims.
The invention itself, however, and additional objects and advantages thereof will best be understood from the following description of an embodiment thereof when read in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIG. 1 is a front elevation of the liquid pouring spout showing the actual example of the invention, FIG. 2 is the plan view of the same, FIG. 3 is the section of line AA of FIG. 2, FIG. 4 is the base View, and FIG. 5 is the section of line BB in FIG. 1.
In this invention, tube 1 is fixed for use to the mouth of the vessel. When the vessel is inclined and its liquid content is poured, it flows out from the outflow passage 8 of the liquid in the pouring pipe 2 through the outflow passage 7 of the liquid in the tube 1 and the air comes in from the air inflow passages 6 in the tube 1 through the air inflow passages 4 in the pouring tube 2, thus the outflow of the liquid and inflow of air can be performed smoothly, giving no fear that the flow of liquid gets disturbed. And when the liquid is poured little by little, it flows out along the angular part in the lower wall of the pouring pipe. Therefore, the outflow width changes in proportion to the quantity of liquid poured and moreover, the outflow direction being fixed, it is possible to pour liquid into a vessel of small calibre without any difficulty.
To make a more detailed explanation, to the upper part of a polyethylene tube 1 so made as the lower part thereof can be fixed to the mouth of a vessel is connected the base of a pouring pipe 2 which is pentagonal in section; air inflow passages 4, 4 are made by providing division plates 3, 3 on both sides of the interior of the pouring tube 2; the upper wall of the pouring tube 2 is made plane and the lower part thereof made angular, air flow passages 6 and liquid outflow passage 7 are provided by vertically providing division plates 5 in the connecting part of the pouring pipe and the pipe 1 on the opposite side, making air inflow passages 6 directly communicate with air inflow passages 4 of the pouring pipe 2; and the liquid outflow passage 7 of the pipe 1 is made to directly communicate with the liquid outflow passage 8 of the pouring pipe 2. And the mouth of the pouring pipe 2 is covered with a free lid 9 and this free lid 9 is fixed to a ring 11 on the pouring pipe by means of the string attached.
While a specific embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes, modifications, substitutions, additions and omissions may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A pouring spout including a tubular base portion adapted to be connected to a container, a tubular pouring spout portion having a bottom formed by wall portions sloping downwardly to a central lowermost point connected to said base portion and extending outwardly from a side thereof and being open at its outer end, a substantially vertical division wall disposed within said tubular base portion adjacent the side thereof opposite to the side from which said spout portion extends, said division wall defining an air passage with the adjacent side of the interior of said base portion and a liquid passage with the side of said base portion connected to said spout, a substantially vertical spout division wall dividing said spout along the complete length thereof into a liquid passage in communication at its inner end with the liquid passage of said base portion and being open at its outer end, and into an air passage of relatively narrow width as compared to said liquid passage communicating at its inner end with the upper end of the air passage defined in said base portion and being open at its outer end, said vertical division wall of said base portion and said spout division wall forming a reinforcing for said pouring spout.
2. A pouring spout according to claim 1, wherein the liquid passage defined in the spout portion includes bottom walls which slope downwardly to a lowermost point thereby to provide an ever increasing flow area with an increase in volume of liquid which is being dispensed.
3. A pouring spout according to claim 1 wherein said spout portion extends obliquely upwardly from said base portion.
4. A pouring spout comprising a tubular base portion having a substantially vertical axis, a division wall extending vertically across the interior thereof adjacent one side and defining an air passage between the adjacent wall and said division wall, and a liquid passage between the opposite side of said division wall and the opposite interior wall of said base portion, a pouring spout extending obliquely upwardly and outwardly from the side of said base portion on a side opposite to said liquid passage and having an opening at its outer end, two substantially vertical spout division walls extending through dividing said spout portion into a central liquid passage and an air passage on each side thereof, said air, passages extending ou h d u u ar ase a d m i afin a their inner ends with the air passage of said base portion and xtsmdin m the f ir Pa o h 91 n of a spout portion, said liquid passage communicating at its inner end'with the liquid passage of said base portion and extending to the open end ofsaid spout portion, said division walls and said spout division'walls torrninga reinforcing for said pouring spout;
5. A pouring spout according to claim 4, wherein said spout portion is of angular shape withits bottom Walls converging to a lowermost point adjacent the center of V 6. A pouring spout according to claim 4, wherein said spout portion is of a trapezoidal configuration with the side walls being substantially vertical and the top Wall Y 4' being substantially horizontal and with i the bottom including two walls converging to a centrallowermost point.
