PANTY-TYPE GIRDLE WITH RELATIVELY MOVABLE FRONT PANELS Filed Dec. 14, 1962 H TTORNE Y United States Patent Office 3,159,534 Patented Feb. 16, 1965 3,169,534 PANTY-TYPE GlRDLE WITH RELATIVELY MOVABLE FRONT PANELS Simon Gri shman, Yonkers, N.Y., assignor to William Gluckin 8: Company, Inc, New York, N.Y., a corporation of Nw'York Filed Dec. 14, 1962, Ser. No. 244,771 2 Claims. '(Cl. 128-528) This invention relates to girdles having overlapped relatively movable front panels, wherein a panty band is employed within the girdle body, with side edges of the band attached to sides of the front panels. Further, the invention deals with a girdle of the character defined, wherein a back panel is employed extending the full depth of the girdle and said panty band having side edges attached to side edges of the back panel. More particularly, the invention deals with a girdle of the character described, wherein the back panel and side portions of the girdle include reinforcing sections on inner surfaces thereof. 7 r
The novel features of the invention will be best unde stood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:
FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic front view of a girdle made and 19. The curved lower edge portions of the panels 10 and 11 are clearlyillustrated at 23 and 24 in FIG. 1 of the drawing. Secured to these lower edge portions and the lower edge portions of the side members 13 and 14 and the back panel 12 is a continuous elastic disposed on the inner surface of these edge portions, as clearly seen at 25 in FIG. 3 of the drawing.
The upper edge, or waistband portion, of the girdle and the various panels and side members thereof include an outer elastic band..26, as .well as an inner preferably cushioned-type of elastic band 27, these being clearly according to my invention, with the front and rear portions disposed substantially one upon the other, with parts of the construction broken away, no representation of stitchings being illustrated.
FIG. 2 is a rear view, generally similar to FIG. 1, with I FIG. 4 is a sectional view, generally similar to FIG. 3, i
but taken on the line 4-4 of FIG. 1, with parts of the construction broken away.
In illustrating one adaptation and use of my invention,
' the girdle body may be said to comprise five primary parts, namely front overlapped panels 10 and 11, a rear panel 12 and generally similar sidemembers 13 and 14.
The panel 10, as well as the panel 12 and the side members 13 and 14, extend the full depth of the girdle;
whereas, the panel lljwhich in the present illustration is the inner panel, terminates short of the upper end of the girdle, as indicated by the angular edge '11, partly shown elevation, which edge contracts downwardly to 'dottedlines in FIG. 2.
portion of the reinforcement 36 is slightly below the points of attachment, as at 16 and'17, as clearly indicated shown in section'in FIG. 3 of the drawing. In this figure, the attachment of the upper edge portion of the panels and side members, as well as the upper edge portion of the panty band, are illustrated by the stitchings 28 and 29. The rear portion of the panty band is attached to the side seams of the back panel 12, as clearly seen by the stitchings 3G, 31 in FIG. 4 of the drawing, and these attachments extend from positions similar to the positions 16 and 17, as identified in FIG. 1 of the drawing.
While the panty band 22 may be formed of a single strip of material, in the construction shown, the same has been illustrated as composed of two strips seamed to ether, as indicated diagrammatically at 32 in FIG. 2 of the drawing, and illustrated, in section, in FIG. 3. The lower side edge portions of the panty band are curved, as seen at 33 at the right of FIG. 2, and these curved side edges are reinforced by an elastic band 34 to form, in combination with the side members 13 and 14 of the girdle, leg openings 35, as shown, in part, in FIG. 1 of the drawing.
The back panel 12, as well as the side members 13 and 14 also include more or less diamond-shaped reinforcements, the reinforcement of the back panel 12 being shown, insection, at 36 in FIGS. 3 and 4 and outlined in It will appear that the widest at ,36 at the left of FIG. 2 of the drawing. Reinforcements to the sides 13 and 14 are shown clearly in section at 37 and 38 in FIG. 4 of the drawing and their outlines are'notedin dottedflinesin FIGS. 1 and 2. Here, the
. widest portionsof the reinforcements 37 and 38 are lo 39, and similar straps 41) are attached to the lower edges of the'back panel'12,"
The panels 13, 11- and 12, V 13 and 14, are preferably composed of suitable all-way stretch fabrics, as are also the reinforcements 36, 37' and I 38; whereas, the vpanty'band 22 ispreferably formed of the center portion of the girdle and is stitched along this edge to the panel 10. At this time, itis'pointed out that all stitchings are omitted from FIGSJI and 2 of the drawing, but stitchings are diagrammatically shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 and the stitching along theedge 11' is seen at 15 in FIG. 3 or the drawing.
extend from the lower edge of the front-of the girdle to a contrasting all-way stretch fabricsuch, for example, as
Helencaf In the use of the girdle, it will be apparent that the relatively movable panels 10 and 11 will provide free flexure of the front portions of the girdle in conforming with bending of the body of the wearer and the reinforcreinforcements are attached.
a higher point along the side seams,- these points of atv of the drawing, these same stitchings passing through side edge portions 20 and 21 0f a panty band 22. The stitch ings in question start at the positions 16, 17 to the upper.
edge portions of the girdle. This-construction "then leaves the two panels 10 and 11 free for relative movement, except for the points of attachment, as at 15, 13
It will also be understood that the panty band is free to flex within the body portion of the girdle with or independent of flexure of the panels 10, 11 and 12 and-between the points of attachment o f this band at the side seams and to the upper edge portion of the girdle.
Having fully described my invention, whatl claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A girdle of the character described comprising a body portion defined by relatively movable overlapped front panels, a back panel and two side members attached to' side edges of saidback, panel and-said front panels;
as well as the side members a waistband portion, a panty band having side edges attached to side edge portions of the back panel and said front panels, one end of said band being attached to the front of the Waistband portion, the other end of the band being attached to 'the rear waistband portion, said panty band having a portion extending etween the front and back panels, said portion extending between the front and back panels, said portion having curved side edges forming, in conjunction with the side members of the girdle, leg openings, said overlapped front panels being composed of all-way stretch material, one of said front panels extending to and being fixed to the waistband of the girdle, and the entire upper edge of the other front panel terminating short of said waistband.
2. A girdle as defined in claim 1, wherein said upper edge of the second named front panel is stitched to the 4, first front panel below and in spaced relation to the Waistband.
