WIRE VPLOATING LIVE B0X. No. 316,775. vPatented Apr. 28,1885.
WITNBSSES: INVENTOR. v. N my A ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH F. HARDMAN, OF RENSSELAER, INDIANA.
WIRE FLOATING LlVE-BOX. v
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 316,775, dated April 28, 1885.
Application filed September 27, 1984. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPrr F. HAEDMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rensselaer, in the county of Jasper and State ot' Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire Floating Live-Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved live-box for fishes, and Fig. 2 is a similar view of one of the floats.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
My invention has relation to live-boxes for fishing; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of' a livebox made of Wire, coated with a suitable preventive for rust, and provided with iioats at its top, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed;
In the accompanying` drawings, the letter A indicates va box or basket of wire, which may be either galvanized, japanned, or coated with any other suitable preventive for rust, which box may be of any convenient shape or size.
The top of the box is provided at both ends with handles B, and at its middle with a handle, C, and the middle of the top is provided with a hinged lid, D, the free edge of which is provided with a bail, E, which is adapted to engage astaple, F, upon the top of the box, and through which staple a chained pin, G, may pass, keeping the lid locked.
Two floats or pontons, H II, are secured to the top of the box, and may be made of Wood or cork, or, as shown in the drawings, of sheet metal, forming air-tight boxes, which floats are beveled at their ends from the under side, as shown at I, so as to pass easily through the Water when the box is dragged through the Water behind a boat.
It will be seen that the box may be used for the transportion of fishing-tackle or other baggage when not used as a live-box, and that it may be oated in the water behind a boat or in any other manner When it is desired to use it for containing fish,the fioats serving to support the'box floating on the surface of the water.
The coating of tin, japan, or other rust-preventive Will prevent the Water from having any influence upon the Wire and other metal used in the manufacture of the box, and will serve to keep it easily cleaned.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination of the box composed of Wire-net, provided With handles at the ends and middle of its top, and provided with a hinged lid in its top, with floats consisting of air-tight sheet-metal boxes secured at the top of the box, and having the forward and rear ends beveled fromthe under side, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
In testimonythat I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH F. HARDMAN.
