Description

Nov. 24, 1964 c. R. GALLAMos 3,157,925
LossPRooF PEN BAND Filed Dec. 1s, 196s United States Patent O 3,157,925 LQSdPROUF PEN BAND Constancio R. Gallarnos, Malasiqui, Paugasiuan, Philippines Filed Dee. 13, 19133, Ser. No. 336,405 1 Claim. (Cl. Zei- 13) This invention relates to a band which is attached to the cap of a fountain pen or a ball pen, said band being provided with a pin which attaches said band, and consequently the writing pen, to the breastpocket of the owner of said pen.
Countless people who would enjoy possessing the best in fountain pens and/ or ball pens refrain from buying same as they fear that they might be victimized by pickpockets or that their precious and costly pens might be lost, one Way or another, while Wearing them. The present invention solves the age-old problem once and for 'all as it makes it virtually impossible for a pickpocket to pick a writing pen which is provided with this device.
The primary object of this invention is to provide fountain pen and/ or ball pen owners with a small and light device which can be easily attached to the cap of a `fountain pen or ball pen so as' to secure said pen from being picked or `from being lost accidentally.
In the drawings,
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the curved ordinary pin which is permanently attached to the band and which is the one used to pin the band to the breastpocket.
FIG. 2 is a perspective View of the band with the pin shown in its operative position.
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the band with the pin shownin its withdrawn or non-operative position.
FIG. 4 is a perspective View of the band already attached to the fountain pen with the pin shown in its operative position.
FIG. 5 is `a perspective view of the device already attached to the cap of a fountain pen which is clipped to the breastpocket and showing Ia portion of the pin outside the breastpocket and the sharp end of the same pin inside the breastpocket.
An ordinary pin 1 (FIG. 1) is curved Aand its head 2 deflected vertically in relation to the portion immediately beside it, such that the curved portion of said `pin 1 iits exactly into the curved canal 3 which has been made longitudinally on the outside surface of said band 4 (FIG. 2) which said canal 3 is of the same length as the curved portion of said pin 1. After said curved pin 1 is fitted into canal 3, one-half or so of said canal, the one which is on the side of the sharp point 5 of the curved pin 1, is covered by la strip 6, and the end of said canal on the side of the pinhead 2 is closed by a projecting strip 7, thus permanently imprisoning said curved pin 1 in said canal 3.
Since only one-half or so of said canal 3 is covered, the deiiected pinhead 2 of curved pin 1 can be easily pushed towards covering strip 6 and then back again to the projecting strip 7. Whenever said pinhead 2 is pushed towards covering strip 6, the sharp point 5 of said curved pin 1 is natunally -also pushed and goes out of the canal and thrust towards the thin portion 8 of the band until it enters the hollow 9.
Band 4 is made of a strong but pliable material such as plastic or pliable metal or the like. Said band 4 is severed at one side so that it can be clamped or attached irmly to fountain pen or ball pen caps of different circumferences.
The thin portion 8 should be located either immediately below or immediately above the contact point 10 of the tip of the clip 11 of the Writing pen as shown in FIG. 4. Thus, when the pin is clipped into the pocket, and the pinhead 2 is pushed towards covering strip 6, the sharp point 5 of the curved pin 1 goes through and out of the breastpocket and then enters again the breastpocket as said sharp Patented Nov. 24a, 1964 ICC point 5, by reason of the curvature of pin 1, is destined to enter hollow 9.
The instant pinning of the device, and consequently of the writing pen, to the breastpocket, is made possible by the fact that the portion of the cloth nearest to the contact point 10 of the tip of the clip 11 is always pressed to the pen cap, and since the sharp point 5 of the curved pin is elevated in relation to the contact point 10 of the clip 11, said lsharp point 5 cannot miss going thru and out of the pocket yand then entering again said pocket whenever pinhead 2 is pushed towards covering strip 6. This is the reason why the thin portion 8 of the band 4 should be located either immediately below or immediately above said contact point 10 of the clip 11. The pen is released from its pinned attachment to the pocket by pushing pinhead 2 back to the end of the canal 3 up to projecting strip 7.
One end of a pliant member 12 is permanently attached to the outside surface of band 4 rat a point as near as practicable to the covering strip 6 such that the tree portion of said pliant member 12 crosses canal 3 with its free tip not quite reaching the other side of canal 3. Ano-ther pliant member 13 identical to pliant member 12 is similarly attached at a point as near as practicable to projecting strip 7. The purpose of said pliant members 12 and 13 is to prevent pinhead 2 from moving by itself away from either covering strip 6 or from projecting strip 7, as the case may be.
Having thus described my invention in detail, I now present my claim which I desire to be protected by Letters Patent: x i
A band comprising a ring-shaped body of strong but pliable material, said band being severed at one side, thus making it adaptable to be slipped or clamped lirmly to the cap of an ordinary writing pen, there being a thin portion running crosswise on said band, 'a canal having been made longitudinally and in conformity with the curvature of said band, one end of said canal ending at said portion, a curved ordinary pin, the curved portion of which being ofthe same length as the said canal, and the head of which said pin being abruptly deected such that it is perpendicular in relation to the portion of said pin immediately beside it, said curved pin being lit-ted into the said canal such that the deected head of said pin is sticking out of said canal, one-half or so of said canal, the one which is on the side of the sharp point of said curved pin, being covered, and the end of said canal, the one at the side of the deilected pinhead, being closed by means of a projecting strip, thus movably imprisoning said curved pin in the said canal, there being a hollow at the side of the thin portion immediately opposite the sharp point of the curved pin, in which said hollow the sharp point of said curved pin is located when said curved pin is in its operative position, -one end of a pliant member beingA permanently attached to the outside surface of said band at a point as near as practicable to .the covering of the covered portion of said canal such that the free portion of said pliant member is in a crosswi-se position in relation to the canal 'and the free tip of the same not quite reaching the opposite side of said canal, one end of another pliant member identical to the above-described pli-ant member being similarly attached to the outside surface of the band at a point as near as practicable to the projecting strip which closes the canal at the side of the dellected head of the curved pin.
