While there are available door stops and closers, these are relatively expensive and difiicult to install and fre quently cannot be used because of their appearance. It is the objective of the present invention to provide door stops and closers that are free of these objectionable characteristics.
In accordance with the invention, this objective is attained by providing a pair of arms to be connected to a door hinge by its hinge pin. A compression spring yieldably urges the arms apart thus to urge the door toward its closed position and the arms are provided with interengageable stop portions which limit the extent to which the door may be opened. One arm bears against the door and the other arm bears against the casing and at least one of the arms has an adjustable bearing element.
In the accompanying drawings, there is shown an illustrative embodiment of the invention from which these and other of its objectives, novel features, and advantages will be readily apparent.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a door stop and closer in accordance with the invention attached to a hinge and showing the door closed.
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the door stop and closer with the door shown as open, and
FIG. 3 is a view showing certain of the parts in perspective.
A door 5 is shown as connected to its casing 6 by a hinge 7.
The pin 8 of the hinge 7 passes freely through holes 9 in the ends of arms 10, which ends are of reduced thickness to provide stop shoulders 11 which interengage when the door is opened to a predetermined extent. A washer 12 is interposed between the interconnected ends of the arms 10.

The arms 10 have angularly disposed end portions 13 through which are threaded the shanks 14 of elements 15, one for hearing engagement with the door 5 and one for like engagement with the casing 6. Adjacent the junction of the arms and their end portions, there are retainers 16 which enter and support the ends of the coil compression spring 17 which is shown of the type with a coil in the form of a band having overlapping turns. j
A door stop and closer, in accordance with the invention, is inexpensive to manufacture and is quickly and easily installed and, because of its location and small'size, it is not objectionably noticeable.
I claim:
A combined door stop and door closing attachment for a hinge connecting a door member to a casing member, said attachment comprising a pair of arms, each arm including first and second angularly disposed sections, the first section of each arm having a hole for a hinge pin by which the two arms are to be pivotally mounted on one end of the hinge pin with the second section of each arm defining an angle greater than the angle defined by the first section of each arm with respect to a plane passing through the hinge pin, the first section of each arm also including stop portions interengageable to limit the extent to which the two arms may be swung towards each other when interconnected by a hinge pin, spring means between said arms urging aid arms apart, and an element carried by at least one said second section of each of said arms and at right angles thereto for engagement with a member and adjustable relative thereto to lessen the extent to which said arms may be swung towards each other before said stop portions inter-engage.
