Description

(No Model.) 4
W. SIMMS.
HORSE AND MULE POKE. No. 314,883. Patented Mar. 31, 1885.
INVENTOR v m Jon 10nd,
' ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
, W'ILLIAM. SIMMS, OF LEBANON, TENNESSEE.
HORSE AND MULE, POKE.
SPECIFICATION fonning part of Letters Patent No. 314,883, dated March 31, 1885.
Application filed July 9, 1884.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM SIMMS, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Lebanon, in the county of Vilson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse and Mule Pokes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective View of my device. Fig. 2 is a detail.
This invention has relation to horse and mule pokes; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, the letters a a designate the check-straps of the headstall, and b b the throat-straps. The lower ends of the check-straps are connected to the ringscc of the iron arms (Z d of the poke e, which is made of wood, in order that it shall be light.
To the arms d d are riveted the ends of the front nose-band g, the rivets or pins passing through the perforations h, of which a series is made through each arm, as shown, in order (No model.)
I that the nose-hand may be properly adjusted before being fastened. The under-jaw band k is attached by its ends to the rings 0. Each iron arm it consists of a straight end portion, Z, which is perforated, as shown at m, for the passage of the rivets or pins 12, whereby the poke e is secured in place between these end portions, a curved part,s, which passes around to the side of the nose, and the ring portion 0, which is formed by two curved horns, t, extending from the upper end of the arm in curved form, their ends lapping one over the other, as shown. These rings are therefore laprings, and the headstall can be easily removed therefrom when it is desired to connect a bit to its check-straps to form a bridle.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
In an animal-poke, the combination, with the headstall, of the perforated arms d (I, having the lap-rings c c, the jaw-band connected to said rings, and the nose-band riveted to the arms, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in 55 presence of two witnesses.
\VILLIAM SIMMS.
