Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a shuttleless loom in which the filling threads are inserted from a stationary supply means of a reciprocating needle which moves transversely to the beater frame.
  • the invention has as principal object to provide a cutting mechanism for filler threads which operates with great accuracy.
  • the device according to the invention comprises a first blade which, in the rear position of the beater frame, is located immediately adjacent one end of the reed and parallel thereto, and a second blade which, in the same position, is directed towards the front of the loom, and disposed under the warp threads of the lower warp of a shed, both blades being carried by the beating frame and controlled by its movement to move towards each other after the insertion of the first filling thread.
  • the cutting of the filling thread is effected at a thoroughly accurate distance from the outermost warp threads or, in other words, from the edge of the fabric, as the transverse position of the warp threads is defined by the reed.
  • the blade which is arranged adjacent to the last reed tooth during the return motion of the beater frame is stationary as regards the latter and does not turn while the second blade is turnable relative to the fixed blade about a transversal axis. Furthermore, the operating mechanism is regulated so that the blades close at the moment in which the beater frame comes forward.
  • the movable blade is already raised when the point thereof comes to the withdrawing line, and when this point passes over the said line there is no risk of catching and cutting the auxiliary selvage thread between the blades, which thread is just tensioned in lateral direction and at the level of the said withdrawing line, as in the instant of the beating action the finger of the selvage device must be separated from the beater frame.
  • the closed blades which are in vertical position at the side of the reed, cannot interfere with the adjacent fabric guiding device.
  • the movable blade of each device is mounted on a shaft which is transversely mounted on the said'beater frame and common to both devices, which, obviously, facilitates the construction as in this case it is only necessary to have a single operating mechanism in order to operate both devices.
  • This mechanism may comprise a connecting rod articulated on the one hand to an arm mounted on the above transverse shaft and, on the other, to a fixed point.
  • a suction nozzle is located on the beater frame so that the same sucks and holds in a tensioned condition the free end of the filler thread during the cutice ting operation of the same.
  • This nozzle is preferably mounted below the lower threads of the warp with the purpose of sucking downwardly the free end of the filler thread corresponding to the action of gravity for placing the free end against the second blade of the cutting device.
  • FIG. 1 is a fragmentary schematic plan view of the left side of a shuttleless loom, showing only the msential members for understanding the present invention
  • FIG. 2 is a fragmentary plan view of the right side of the loom
  • FIG. 3 is a diagrammatical side view on a larger scale, showing one of the cutting devices of the loom, respectively in the rear position of the beater frame (full lines) and in the forward position of the same (dotted lines).
  • the reference numeral 1 indicates the warp threads which go through the reed 2 carried by the beater frame 2a of the loom.
  • the latter carries supply means for filling threads including four spools, not shown, from which four diiferent filling threads 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, issue, and thread guides 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, arranged at the left side of the loom and holding the filling threads in a position to be picked up and drawn through the warp shed by means of a weft inserting needle 5, of reciprocating motion and operated from the right side of the loom (FIG. 2).
  • the weft inlet side is located at the left of FIG.
  • the guides 4a, 4b, 4c and 4d are located above the level of the needle 5 but are selectively lowered so that the said needle may catch one of the threads by means of a hook 6.
  • the needle is provided with a conventional nip device in order to hold the thread picked as above and which opens when the said needle comes to the end of the stroke thereof, that is to say, in the position represented at the left hand side of FIG. 2.
  • the free ends of the weft are held in tensioned condition at the left edge of the loom by suction means shown to be a sucking nozzle 7.
  • the finished fabric is held in tensioned condition in all the width thereof by means of two fabric guiding devices indicated at 8.
  • a selvage device is provided at each side of the loom and comprises a filler inserting finger 9, suitably articulated on a vertical shaft disposed over the corresponding fabric guiding device 8.
  • a filler inserting finger 9 suitably articulated on a vertical shaft disposed over the corresponding fabric guiding device 8.
  • the operating mechanism with the vertical shaft and the arm connecting this shaft to the fingers have been withdrawn.
  • Each finger is given a reciprocating motion with the purpose of inserting an auxiliary thread 11 through the warp at each time, this thread being held in position when the finger 9 moves backwards and until the beating action, by means of a suitable needle, not shown, but the location of which is indicated at 12.
  • the beater frame 2a carries a cutting device according to the invention at each side of the reed 2.
  • Each of the said devices comprises a stationary blade 13 arranged at a short distance from the last tooth 14 of the reed (for example, about 1 mm.) and parallel thereto.
  • the blade 13 is secured to the beater frame at the point 13a.
  • a transverse shaft 15 crosses the blade and is arranged under the lower threads of the warp 1.
  • a corresponding movable blade 16 is mounted on shaft 15 so that in the rear position of the beating frame it is placed in a substantially horizontal position and directed towards the front end of the loom, that is to say, towards the right side of the FIG. 3 (the front end of the loom being, as usual, the end thereof where the fabric is coiled).
  • the shaft 15 carries mounted thereon a q or driving arm 17 to which a small connecting rod 19 is connected by a pivot joint 18, the said connecting rod being, in turn, articulated at the pivot pin 20 secured to a fixed support 20a on the stationary loom frame.
  • the shaft 15 extends through all of the width of the beating frame 2a, on which it is supported by means of two lateral supponts 21. It carries the blade 16 of both cutting devices which, in this manner, are operated simultaneously by the small connecting rod 19.
  • the beating frame When the beating frame is in its rear position indicated in full lines in FIG. 3, the cutting devices are in inoperative positions, the movable blades 16 of both cutting devices are under the path of the needle 5, and thereby, they do not interfere with the movement of the same.
  • the beating frame 2a moves forward to a beating position shown in broken lines to beat the filler thread in the usual manner.
  • the small connecting rod 19 forces the arm 17 to rock and the shaft 15 .to revolve, moving each cutting device to a cutting position by applying the movable blade 16 of each cutting device against the corresponding fixed blade 13.
  • FIG. 2 shows an additional aspiration nozzle 22, mounted on the beating frame 2a and constituting suction means arranged to suck and hold in tensioned condition the issuing end of the weft A just inserted by the needle, in order to facilitate the cutting of the said end and prevent the same from escaping from the shears.
  • the said nozzle 22 is mounted so that its oval inlet opening 22a is located below the level of the lower threads of the warp 1 laterally of the same, with the axis of the inlet thereof directed at right angles to the plane of the fabric.
  • a device for cutting the ends of the fillings comprising a fixed support; a beating frame mounted on said support for a reciprocating movement between a rear position and a beating position, said beating frame having a reed means mounted thereon and adapted to extend across the warps with its ends located in the region of the outermost warps; a pair of first blades fixed on said beating frame and located directly adjacent the ends of said reed means, respectively; a shaft extending across the warps parallel to said reed means and being mounted on said beating frame for turning movement; a pair of second blades respectively mounted on the ends of said shaft and being turnable with the same between an inoperative position adapted to be located below the warps and a cutting position cooperating with said fixed first blades for cutting the fillings; and means secured to said support and operatively connected to said shaft for turning the same during movement of said beating frame so that said second blades are in said operative position when said heating frame is in said rear position, and so that
