GEORGE VASHINGTON WENTZ, OF TEDROVV, OHIO.
BAG-HOLDER.
SPEQFCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,902, dated March 17, 1885.
Application filed December 23, 1884.
.To afi/Z tf1/'wmf t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE NV. -WENTZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tedrow, in the county of Fulton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and `useful Imlowing is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to bag-holders; and it has for its object to provide improved means for holding the bag in positionand distending the mouth of the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bag-holder which shall be cheap and simple in its construction, strong and durable, and one to which a bag may be readily attached and detached at will.
With these ends in view the invention consists in the improved constructions and combinations of parts, hereinai`ter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a bag-holder constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder detached, and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section.
Inthe accompanying drawings, in which likeletters of reference indicate correspond ing parts in all the figures, A represents the holder, which consists of the four sides or walls, which incline or taper downwardly, thus making the lower end of the holder con siderably smaller than the upper end.
Upon the rear side of the holder A are arranged near the upper end thereof brackets @which extend rearwardly, said brackets being provided with ,recesses or seats, which are adapted to receive or fit upon a bar or track, B, secured in any suitable manner at any desired or convenient point, said bag-holder being adapted to be slid upon said rail or track and be supported thereby.
Upon the rear side of the bag-holder A, at or near the lower end thereof,is secured astrip, c, the ends of which extend beyond the sides of the holder, as shown at d. Bythe employment ot' this strip c, it will be seen that, when the mouth of the bagA is placed in engagement with the holder, the said projecting ends will serve to support the same.
Upon the front of the holder A, at the lower (No model.)
end thereof, is hinged a semicircular strip, e, by means of which the mouth of the bag may be distended, as will be more fully described.
Attached to the outer side or face ofthe hinged strip e, at right angles thereto, is a plate, f, the upper end of which is adapted to be engaged by a button, g, pivoted to the front of the holder A near the upper end thereof. When the said strip e is raised and secured in place by the button engaging the plate f, it projects at right angles to tlielower end of the holder.
The operation is as follows: The holder is placed upon the rail B and slid tothe desired point thereon. The bag is then inserted over the lower end of the holder, and is engaged by the ends of the strip c, which serves to support one side of the bag. The hinged strip e is then raised and is held in such position by the button g engaging the platef, thus distend- `ing the mouth of the bag and supporting the same against displacement or detachment.
The above-described bag-holder is cheap and simple in its construction, strong and durable, and affords convenient and efficient means for the purpose intended.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with a bagholder, of a strip secured thereto and having its ends projecting beyond the sides of said holder, a hinged semicircular strip for distending-the mouth of the bag, aplate attached to said strip,
and a button pivoted to the holder and adapted to engage said plate, substantially as set forth.
2. The herein-described bag-holder having the inclined sides, brackets having seats attached to the said holder, a strip having projecting ends, a semicircular hinged strip carrying a plate, and a button adapted to engage said plate to hold the semicircular strip at rightangles to the holder, as set forth.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE WASHINGTON WEXTZ.
