It is an object of the present invention to provide a device for facilitating the exercise of the neck and neck muscles which will serve a number of purposes, and which is extremely comfortable during use.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a neck developer of the type described in which the weight can be minutely varied in order to control the stress and strain placed upon the neck muscles during use.

All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a neck developer made in accordance with the present invention in actual use;

FIGURE 2 is a perspective, with parts broken away, of the device shown in FIGURE 1 removed from the head helmet;

FIGURE 3 is an enlarged front elevational view, partly in section, showing the construction of the parts shown in FIGURE 1;

FIGURE 4 is a perspective view of a sand pouch forming another part of the present invention;

FIGURE 5 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view of certain parts of the present invention; and

FIGURE 6 is an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional view of other parts of the present invention.

Referring now to the drawing, a neck developer 10 made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include a head helmet, of the type used for football, having a pair of ear apertures 14 which serve an additional purpose, as will be hereinafter more fully described.

A sheaf 18 of preferably flexible plastic material, has a wall 219 secured, such as by stitching 19, substantially midway between the opposite ends of the sheaf. This wall 20, of similar plastic material, overlies the top of the helmet 12 with a remaining portion of the sheaf 22 forming a compartment within of which a predetermined quantity of sand 24 may be placed for weighting the assembly during use. A strap 26 having a buckle 28 serves to secure the upper portion 22 of the sheaf in a folded over position, as shown in FIGURES 1 and 3, to seal the sand within the compartment when applied to the helmet 12. The lower end of each strap element is provided with a mounting hook 30 having a reentrant portion 32 for engagement within the ear aperture 14 on each side of the helmet 12, which securement device 30 is secured to the strap 26, such as by a rivet 34.

It will now be recognized that with the sheaf assembly removed from the helmet 12, the helmet may be used in a conventional manner. However, the sheaf may be readily applied and the amount of sand varied within the interior thereof so as to provide a weight upon the head for exercising the neck muscles in a well known manner.

While this invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing, it is to be understood that such is not to be construed as imparting limitations upon the invention, which is best defined by the claims appended hereto.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A neck exerciser comprising a helmet having a head piece with ear pieces depending therefrom, a flexible cylindrical sheaf having said head piece disposed in One end thereof, said cylindrical sheath forming a compartment to receive sand in its other end that is foldable to close said sand receiving compartment, sand disposed in said sand receiving compartment, said sand receiving compartment with the sand substantially conforming in shape with said head piece when folded, and strap means disposed across said sheaf and having ends releasably engaging said ear pieces for holding said sheaf immovable on said helmet and the sand receiving compartment folded when closed.

A neck exerciser in accordance with claim 1, Wherein said sheaf is a substantially cylindrical flexible wall having a flexible wall therein spaced from the ends of said sheaf to divide the space within the cylindrical wall into an area for receiving said head piece and said sand receiving compartment.

A neck exerciser in accordance with claim 2, wherein said strap means is comprised of two strap members, each strap member having one end being connected to and cooperating with the one end of the other strap member to adjust the length of the strap means and the other end of each strap member having a hook for engaging one of said ear pieces.

4. A neck exerciser in accordance with claim 3, wherein each of said strap members is fixedly connected at a point intermediate its ends to said cylindrical wall.

Claims (1)

1. A NECK EXERCISER COMPRISING A HELMET HAVING A HEAD PIECE WITH EAR PIECES DEPENDING THEREFROM, A FLEXIBLE CYLINDRICAL SHEAF HAVING SAID HEAD PIECE DISPOSED IN ONE END THEREOF, SAID CYLINDRICAL SHEATH FORMING A COMPARTMENT TO RECEIVE SAND IN ITS OTHER END THAT IS FOLDABLE TO CLOSE SAID SAND RECEIVING COMPARTMENT, SAND DISPOSED IN SAID SAND RECEIVING COMPARTMENT, SAID SAND RECEIVING COMPARTMENT WITH THE SAND SUBSTANTIALLY CONFORMING IN SHAPE WITH SAID HEAD PIECE WHEN FOLDED, AND STRAP MEANS DISPOSED ACROSS SAID SHEAF AND HAVING ENDS RELEASABLY ENGAGING SAID EAR PIECES FOR HOLDING SAID SHEAF IMMOVABLE ON SAID HELMET AND THE SAND RECEIVING COMPARTMENT FOLDED WHEN CLOSED.
