(Cl. 13985) It is known per se to provide Jacquard machines with a double roller element in order to obtain open shed operation and increase in speed of the machine and hence of the loom. Such double roller elements include two cheeks which embrace the rollers and have the roller axles supported therein. But in actual practice the known double roller elements of this type could not become adopted up to the present, because they are too complicated and subject to breakdowns.
Now the present invention has for its object, to improve such a double roller element, which according to the invention, comprises two rollers each of which is supported on an axle, and two cheeks embracing said rollers. The axIes are supported in said cheeks and secured from rotation. The cheeks are made resilient and are capable of self-restoration, when flexed outwardly to receive the axles, in the direction of the roller axles and press against end faces of the axles.
By such a design, various advantages are achieved. The rollers can easily be inserted with their axles, simply by flexibly bending the cheeks apart, and in this way also changing of damaged rollers is greatly facilitated. It is no longer necessary to rivet the axles, which not only effects a saving in labor and facilitates changing, but above all enables non-rivetable material to be used. Consequently, according to the invention, the roller axles may consist of synthetic material which, for instance, is impregnated with graphite or another lubricant, and also the rollers themselves may be formed of synthetic material. In this way, invariably good running properties of the rollers can be continually obtained.
Other features of the invention will become apparent from the following description and claims, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein there are shown purely by way of example two forms of embodiment incorporating the invention. In the drawing,

Referring more particularly to FIGS. 1-4 wherein the double roller element 1 has rollers 2, 3 having cords 4 led thereover are supported between two checks 5. As visible in FIG. 2, the two checks 5 are united by a back 6 so as to be of substantially U-shaped cross-section, and are resilient relative to each other. Therefore, the two cheeks may be bent laterally apart for the purpose of inserting the roller axles 7.
The rollers 2, 3 are supported on the middle portion 8 of the roller axles 7. This middle portion 8 is of a length that somewhat exceeds the width of the rollers and has adjoining stubs 9, of a smaller cross-section than the middle portion 8, which are inserted into holes 10 on the checks 5. By this reduced formation of the roller axles 7,
the cheeks 5 rest against the end' faces 8a of the axles 8, so that the rollers 2, 3 remain freely rotatable, while the roller axles are clamped between said checks. The stubs have flats 11 which engage flats 12 of the holes 10 so that the roller axles 7 are secured from rotation Within the cheeks. A screwdriver slot 13 facilitates insertion of the roller axles between the cheeks 5, since the roller axles 7 can then easily be turned into the position in which they snap snugly into the holes 10. The end faces of the stubs 9 of the axles 7 are flush with the outer surfaces of the checks 5 so that there are no portions projecting beyond the cheeks.
In the form of embodiment according to FIGS. 5 and 6, the checks 5 have indentations 5a adapted to engage in recesses 16 of the axles 15. The recesses may also be throughgoing holes as indicated by the broken lines 17. The recesses 16 or holes 17 are quadrangular in shape, to which the indentation fits. It is understood that also other non-circular shapes of the indentations 5a or recesses 16 or holes 17 may be provided. As in the first form, it is important that the axles 15 are securely held against rotation within the cheeks and that the cheeks rest resiliently against the end faces of the axles 15 in order to ensure free running of the rollers, whereby sliding movement only occurs between the rollers 2, 3 and roller axles 15, and abrasion of the roller axles within their holders is excluded.
The roller axles 7 or 15, and preferably also the rollers 2, 3, consist of synthetic material. In order to ensure easy running free from wear, the middle portion 8 of the roller axles 7 or the axles 15 are impregnated with a lubricant, for example, graphite.
Between the bearings of the roller axles, the checks 5 have elongated openings 14. Because of these openings, not only is the weight of the double roller elements made less, but above all the contact surface, with which the neighboring double roller elements contact each other is diminished. The neighboring double roller elements are continually moved relative to each other, and in the conventional designs it has been found that frictional contact occurs between the neighboring double roller ele ments, which renders their movement diflicult. As a result of these recesses 14, such adherence or friction of the neighboring roller elements on each other is avoided to a great extent, and the double roller elements remain easily movable relative to each other, which is moreover facilitated in that the elements have no portions projecting beyond the outer surfaces of the cheeks 5.
What I claim is:
1. In a double pulley for Jacquard machines, in combination, a pair of spaced pulley axles, a pulley rotatable on each of said pulley axles, a frame element having means defining two, spaced cheeks resiliently connected for holding said axles fixedly spaced and in a condition in which the axles cannot rotate, said resiliently connected cheeks being flexible for flexing them laterally apart from a given rest position for inserting the axles with the pulley thereon between the cheeks extending axially therebetween, said cheeks being self-restoring to said rest position, the cheeks having holes in which the axles are mounted and held stationary, at least one of said cheeks having a surface defining one of the holes in which each of said axles is received and each axle having a surface cooperative with said surface defining said hole to keep the axle stationary in said hole and each pulley axle having axial extensions of reduced diameter inserted into said holes and defining annular shoulders on opposite ends thereon against which said cheeks are resiliently pressed in said rest position when the axles are inserted therebetween, and one of said axle extensions on each axle having a groove on an end face thereof for receiving a screw driver.
2. In a double pulley for Jacquard machines, in combination, a pair of spaced pulley axles, a pulley rotatable on each of said pulley axles, a U-shaped frame element having; means defining two, spaced cheeks resiliently'con nected for holding said axles fixedly spaced and in a condition in which the axles cannot" rotate, said resiliently connected cheeks being flexible for flexingthern laterally apart from a givenrest position for inserting the axles with the pulley thereon between the cheeks extending axially thereb'etween, said cheeks being self-restoring to said-rest position, the cheeks'having holes in Which the axles" are mounted and held stationary, at least one of said cheeks having-a surface defining one of the holes in which each of saidaxles is received and each axle having a surface cooperative with said surface defining said hole toke'ep' the axle stationary in said hole and each pulley axle having axial extensions of reduced diameter inserted into said holes and defining annular shoulders on opposite ends thereon against which said checks are resiliently pressed in said rest position when the axles are inserted therebetween, and one of said axle extensions on each axle having a groove on an end face thereof for receiving a screw driver.

Claims (1)

1. IN A DOUBLE PULLEY FOR JACQUARD MACHINES, IN COMBINATION, A PAIR OF SPACED PULLEY AXLES, A PULLEY ROTATABLE ON EACH OF SAID PULLEY AXLES, A FRAME ELEMENT HAVING MEANS DEFINING TWO, SPACED CHEEKS RESILIENTLY CONNECTED FOR HOLDING SAID AXLES FIXEDLY SPACED AND IN A CONDITION IN WHICH THE AXLES CANNOT ROTATE, SAID RESILIENTLY CONNECTED CHEEKS BEING FLEXIBLE FOR FLEXING THEM LATERALLY APART FROM A GIVEN REST POSITION FOR INSERTING THE AXLES WITH THE PULLEY THEREON BETWEEN THE CHEEKS EXTENDING AXIALLY THEREBETWEEN, SAID CHEEKS BEING SELF-RESTORING TO SAID REST POSITION, THE CHEEKS HAVING HOLES IN WHICH THE AXLES ARE MOUNTED AND HELD STATIONARY, AT LEAST ONE OF SAID CHEEKS HAVING A SURFACE DEFINING ONE OF THE HOLES IN WHICH EACH OF SAID AXLES IS RECEIVED AND EACH AXLE HAVING A SURFACE COOPERATIVE WITH SAID SURFACE DEFINING SAID HOLE TO KEEP THE AXLE STATIONARY IN SAID HOLE AND EACH PULLEY AXLE HAVING AXIAL EXTENSIONS OF REDUCED DIAMETER INSERTED INTO SAID HOLES AND DEFINING ANNULAR SHOULDERS ON OPPOSITE ENDS THEREON AGAINST WHICH SAID CHEEKS ARE RESILIENTLY PRESSED IN SAID REST POSITION WHEN THE AXLES ARE INSERTED THEREBETWEEN, AND ONE OF SAID AXLE EXTENSIONS ON EACH AXLE HAVING A GROOVE ON AN END FACE THEREOF FOR RECEIVING A SCREW DRIVER.
