Description

(No Model.)
G. L. BROOMHALL. DEVICE FOR SECURING ELECTRIC WIRES T0 POLES.
No. 310,931. Patented Ja11.20,1885.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE L. BROOMHALL, OF PATERSON, NE\V JERSEY.
DEVICE FOR SECURING ELECTRIC WIRES TO POLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 810,931, dated January 20, 1885.
Application filed May 23, 1884.
To. all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE L. BROOMHALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paterson, Passaic county, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Securing Telegraph and Telephone WVires to the Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
The object of my invention is the prod no tion of a cheap, simple, and reliable device for securing telegraph and telephone wires to the poles.
The invention consists of the devices illus trated in the drawings, which will hereinafter be fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 of the drawings shows the device in elevation. Fig. 2 is a plan otsame. Fig. 3 shows the device applied to the pole, and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the under side of the device.
A represents a device for securing telegraph and telephone wires against the pole, and consists in a cast-metal plate, f, which plate is made malleable and capable of being bent and made to conformto the shape of the pole B. The platef is provided centrally on its upper outer surface with a projecting screw-pin, I). The pin 1) is cast hollow, as shown at G, and has a suitable screw-thread to accommodate an insulator, a. The under side of the platefis provided with two angnlar pointed pins, 72 The plate f is also provided with holes a. I
(No model In practice the device is placed in the desired position on the pole B and the pins 71, are driven in the pole, after which the ends of the platef are bent by being hit with the hammer and made to conform to the shape of the pole, after which suitable nails or spikes are driven in through the holes 6 into the pole B, which firmly secures the device to the telegraph or telephone pole, the hammerseats (1 being convenient points to strike the plate f when bending the same to conform to the telegraph or telephone pole. The device having been secured to the pole in the manner stated, the insulator a is screwed on the screw-pin b and the telegraph or telephone wire secured thereto in the usual and \vel 1 k no w 11 w ay.
Myinvention may be easily applied to telegraph and telephone poles in any position where wires are needed.
Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A device for securing telegraph and telephone wires to the telegraph or telephone pole, consisting of a plate, f, having screwpin b,\rith a hollow, O, the plate having holes 0, and hammer-seats d,with pins h, in combination with the pole B and insulator a, substantially as described.
GEORGE L. BROOMHALL.
