F/fiara ads/1mm United States Patent 3,186,123 MARCHHNG DRUM iii-OLDER Richard D. dohannsen, 1114 Ave. E, Hawarden, Iowa Filed tan. 31, 1962, her. No. 178,180 2 Claims. (Q1. 841-421) My invention relates to a marching drum holder.
An object of my invention is to provide a holder for maching type drums which is supported from the shoulders of the wearer, and which includes certain other features whereby the holder is firm and relatively rigid so as to support the drum in the proper position.
A further object of my invention is to provide a holder which is adjustable and by which the drum can be pivoted to any desired position.
A further object of my invention is to provide an arrangement which is comfortable and of simple construction.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of my device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a side elevation of the drum holder,
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of FIGURE 1 and,
FIGURE 3 is an enlarged detail.
My invention contemplates the provision of a marching drum holder which will securely hold the drum in any desired position and so the drum will be comfortably worn etc.
1 have used the character 18 to designate a transverse strap to which are secured the substantially arcuate straps 1 1, and attached to the straps and 11 are the inner padding members '12, this arrangement being adapted to be supported on the shoulders 13 of the drummer, the character .14 indicating further front torso portions etc.
The transverse strap 11) is attached to a vertical strap 15 having the openings 16 therein, and engaging the strap 15 is a further vertical strap 17 having suitable openings whereby the straps '15 and 17 can be secured together by means of the wing-nuts and bolts 18. Attached to the strap 17 at 19 is an arcuate horizontally positioned strap 2% which is also padded as at 21, and which is adapted to abut against further torso portions as shown in FIG- URE l.
The character 22 indicates a bracing strap which is secured to the strap 17 and to the further horizontal strap portion 23 which extends integrally from the strap C17.
The straps 2'2 and 23 are bent downwardly at 24 into the portions 25 which portions 25 are suitably padded as at 26, the member 26 also serving to support the drum 21 7, a portion of which drum is shown herein, the character 28 indicating the usual vertically positioned rods which are secured to the drum by means of the lugs 29.
An arcuate strap 30 (see FIGURE 3) is suitably secured at 31 to the members 24 and 25, the attaching member 31 providing means whereby the strap 36 can be angularly adjusted so that the drum can be firmly secured in any desired angular position.
The character 32 indicates a pair of outer straps having the slots 33 therein, and received through the slots 33 are the wing-nut units 34 which will permit the straps 32 to be spaced as desired, and the strap 32 extends into the curled ends 33a which ends 33a are adapted to receive a pair of Fatented ct. 8, 1963 ice the spaced vertical rods 28, as shown clearly in FIG- URE 2.
- It will now be noted from the foregoing construction that the curled portions 33a can be conveniently attached to any two of the vertical rods 28 and the arrangement securely tightened so as to securely support the drum, and it will be further noted that the drum can be angularly positioned as desired.
Also the nuts and bolts 18 will permit vertical adjustment so as to accommodate the various heights of the drummers, and it will be noted that the arrangement can be quickly attached and provides all of the various advantages mentioned in the objects of my invention.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my invention, without depart ing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.
I claim as my invention:
1. A marching drum holder comprising a pair of laterally spaced substantially arcuate shoulder engaging supports, a vertically positioned strap attached to said supports, a further vertically positioned strap adjustably engaged with said strap, a lower horizontally positioned sub stantially arcuate torso engaging member attached to said further strap, a forwardly projecting member extending from the lower end of said further'strap, means attached to said forwardly projecting member for securing a drum thereto, including a laterally positioned arcuate strap, outer adjustable strap portions attached to said arcuate strap, said outer adjustable strap portions having curled ends adapted to receive vertical drum rod members, means for pivoting said arcuate strap to said forwardly projecting member, to support said drum in desired angular position.
2. A marching drum holder comprising a pair of laterally spaced substantially larcuate shoulder engaging supports, a vertically positioned strap attached to said supports, a further vertically positioned strap adjustably engaged with said strap, a lower horizontally positioned substantially arcuate torso engaging member attached to said further strap, a forwardly projecting member extending from the lower end of said further strap, means attached to said forwardly projecting member for securing a drum thereto, including a laterally positioned arcuate strap, outer adjustable strap portions attached to said arcuate strap, said outer adjustable strap portions having curled ends adapted to receive vertical drum rod members, means for pivoting said arcuate strap to said forwardly projecting member, to support said drum in desired angular position, a drum abutment member attached to said forwardly projecting member.
