Description

Feb. 27, 1934. DQNDELINGER 1,948,785
TRUSS Filed Oct. 15. 1931 gin undo;
N. p021; linye Patented Feb. 27, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 1 Claim.
This invention relates to trusses and more particularly to adjustable trusses.
An object of this invention is to provide a truss of this kind which can be readily adjusted into I various positions so that it can be conveniently and comfortably worn.
Another object of this invention is to provide in a device of this kind means whereby various adjustments of the truss member may be effected and held in adjusted position. A further object of this invention is to provide a device of this character which is so constructed that any conventional truss pad may be used therewith.
The above and various other objects and advanll tages of this invention will in part be described in and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
I) Figure l is a detailed top plan view of a device constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention.
Figure 2 is a detailed front elevation of the device showing in dotted lines the various positions of the pad members; and
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially through the longitudinal center of one of the pad members showing in detail the means for adjustably attaching the pad to the supporting members.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates generally an elongated truss supporting bar having apertures 13 adjacent each end thereof to receive a flexible strap or member 11 so that the truss bar 10 may be supported in the desired position. This bar 10 has the central portion 12 thereof offset from the ends 14 and there is also provided an enlarged portion 15 between the ofiset central portion 12 and the end portions 14, the purpose for which will be hereinafter described. In order to adjustably support a truss pad 16 from the frame or bar 10, I have provided a supporting bar or rod 17 which has one end thereof positioned in an eye bolt 18 passing through the enlargement 15, this bolt 18 also having a washer 19 interposed between the supporting member 1'7 and the adjacent face of the enlargement 15 so that as the bolt 18 is tightened it will draw the bar 17 against the washer 19 and maintain the bar 1'7 in desired angular position with respect to the truss bar 10.
A plate 20 is secured to the back of the truss pad 16 by means of screws or the like 21 and this plate 20 is provided with a round opening 22 therethrough which is smaller in size than an opening or cavity 23 provided in the back of the truss pad 16. A clamping bar or member 24 which is provided with a slot 25 therethrough opening on the inner face thereof is disposed about the supporting member 1'7 and the inner face thereof engages the outer surface of the plate 20. This clamping bar 24 has bolts or screws 26 passing therethrough which threadably engage a clamp- 66 ing plate 27 disposed Within the cavity or recess 23 of the truss pad 16. This clamping plate 27 engages the backing plate 20, where this plate overlies the cavity 23 and coacts with the clamping bar 24 in holding the truss pad 16 in desired 70 adjusted position both circumferentially and longitudinally of the truss pad supporting bar or member 17.
Through the use of this novel pad supporting a means the pad 16 may be swung into any de- 78 sired position where it will accomplish the purpose for which it is designed and through the use of the adjustable means including the eye-bolt 18 and the round pad supporting bar 17, the pad 16 may be swung into any desired position with 80 respect to the supporting bar 10. As disclosed in the drawing, there are two of these truss pads 15 with the supporting elements, these pads 16 being supported in desired spaced relation one to another and each pad has independent adis justability one with respect to another.
In the use of this device, the bar or frame member 10 may be attached to the strap members 11 and the frame or bar 10 supported in desired operative position, whereupon the pad supporting in member 17 may be swung into a position where the pad 16 will overlie the desired part, whereupon the bolt 18 may be tightened and the pad 16 may then be adjusted angularly and circumferentially with respect to the supporting memher 17 by loosening up the bolts 26 so as to permit the pad 16 to be rotated or swung with respect to the clamping member ormed by the outer bar 24 and the inner bar '7.
It is of course understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:-
A truss comprising an elongated bar, a truss pad having a cavity in one face thereof, a plate porting member, a washer about the bolt intermediate said supporting member and said bar, and a nut threaded on said bolt and engaging the opposite side of said bar, tightening of said nut drawing said eye through said washer and binding said supporting member in adjusted position on said bar.
