CORSET-CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 310,512, dated January 6, 1885.

To @ZZ whom it may colzccrlr Be it known that l, LUOIAN HILL, of North lrookiield, county of VOrCeSter, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Corset-SteelA Fastenings, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention has for its object the pro duction of a corset-steel fastening or lockclasp from preferably a single plate of metal, and also to guard or shield the free ends of the locking springs or arms of the clasp to obviate other movement thereof than that parallel with the faces of the steel next to it.

The steels A B are and may be of usual construction. The steel A is provided with the usual headed stud, s.
The fastening or lock clasp (l) is composed of a sheet of metal cut out to form spring arms 'b integral therewith, having between them a large opening, 2, larger in diameter than the head of the stud s, and an opening, 3, smaller in diameter than the said head, the said openings being connected bya slot a portion of which-is of less diameter, as at 4, than the diameter ofthe stud s below its head. The free ends 5 of the arms b b slightly overlap the inner edge of the steel B, and the upper or outer sides ofthe free ends of the said'arms are covered o'r protected by a cap-plate, D, partially broken out in Fig. 1, but properly extended out to the edge ofthe steel B in Fig. 2. This cap-plate D and the lock-clasp are both attached to steel B by rivets c. The space f between the cap-plate D and the steel B serves as a pocket, into which extend the free ends of the arms b, (shown best in Fig. 2,) and prevents the said arms from being sprung up or down from the steel A when the headed stud is being placed between the said arms or being drawn from between them. The arms l Z yield laterally to the passage of. the stud s between the narrow parts 4 of the slot connecting the large opening 2 with the small opening 3 in the locleclaspi. ln this lockclasp it will be noticed that the spring-arms extend from the front end of the plate backward toward the stcel,to which the lock-clasp is directly attached, which is different from the spring-arms in my application filed of even date herewith; and it will also be noticed thatin this application the slot between the large and small openings 2 3 is contracted in width to form points to spring behind the stud, whereas in my other application referred to the ends of the arms pointed outward from the steel with which the lock-clasp is connected fall behind the stud of the other steel.
In practice l prefer to employ two independent spring-arms b; but it is obvious that one arm might be employed instead of two with beneficial results.
I claim- 1. Aeorset-clasp plate, (l, having the openings 2 and 3 and a connecting-slot,and spring b,constituting one side of such openings and slot, and integral with the plate and extending from the fore end of the plate rearward to the steel to which it is attaehed,the free end thereof resting above said steel, substantially as described.
2. A corset-clasp plate, C, having the openings 2 and 3 and a connecting-slot, and spring b, constituting one side of such openings and slot, and integral with the plate and extending from the fore end of the plate rearward to the steel to which it is attached, the free end thereof resting above said steel, combined with the cap-plate D, substantially as described.
3. A corset clasp plate or eye having openings 2 3 and slot for connecting the same, and springarms b b integral with the metal of the plate and forming the sides of the said openings and slot, substantially as described.
