. 3 Claims. (Cl. 15-21) Peter The present invention generally relates to a ball cleaner and more particularly to a golf ball scrubber.

A principal object of the present invention is the provision of a golf ball scrubber which can conveniently be carried by the golfer so as to be availabe at all times.

Another important object of the present invention is the provision of a golf ball scrubber which can be con- Weniently clamped to the body of a golf cart in any of a variety of positions so as to be easily accessible by the golfer. p

A further object is the provision of a golf ball scrubber which can contain a detergent or cleaning fluid without leaking or spilling said fluid regardless of the position of the scrubber.

A further object is the provision of means for cleaning a golf ball by vertical manipulation of the scrubber cover.

Also, an important object of the present invention is the provision of a golf ball scrubber which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, lightweight, easy to operate, convenient to carry, and highly effective for its intended purpose of cleaning golf balls.

'These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the golf ball scrubber of the present invention mounted in position upon a golf cart;

FIGURE 2 is a cross-sectional view taken substantially on a plane passing along line 22 in FIGURE 1;

FIGURE 3 is a cross-sectional view taken substantially on a plane passing along line 33 in FIGURE 1; and

FIGURE 4 is an elevation-a1 view illustrating the manner in which the golf ball scrubber of the present invention is operated. A portion of this figure is broken away so as to illustrate the manner in which the scrubbing bristles contact and cleanse a golf ball.

A top 24 having a depending peripheral flange 26, threaded complementary to the threaded portion 22, is provided so as to completely enclose the golf ball scrubber 10 whereby any leaking or spilling of a cleaning fluid 28 within said scrubber is" prevented. The golf ball scrubber It consists basically of a tubular formed of either plastic or rubber, having :a plurality of scrubbing bristles 32 extending inwardly therefrom. -The bristles 32 can either be embedded within the liner 30 or, as is readily apparent, said bristles can be formed integral with the liner. If so desired, the liner 30 can be formed as a flat member with the bristles embedded in one side thereof. Such a flat liner could then be manually formed into :a cylinder for easy insertion within the tubular member 16. Slits 34 can be provided on the side opposite from the bristles 32 to facilitate the forming of the liner.

The clamp means 12 which secure the golf ball scrubber of the present invention to a standard golf cart, contop porsists preferably of two opposed members 52 secured together by a standard bolt and nut 54. Each member 52 comprises a large end 56 for accommodating the tubular container 16, and a small end 58 for accommodating a tubular portion of the golf cart 14. Obviously, other clamp means can be used and still be within the scope of d cover, raising the cover and its attached ball holding ring I a suflicient distance so as to allow the insertion of the golf ball, and-with the ball resiliently held in the ring, exerting an up and down force to the easily held cover so as to produce a scrubbing contact between the bristles and the golf ball as clearly illustrated in FIGURE 4. Upon completion of the scrubbing op'eratiomthe cover is raised, the golf ball removed and the cover again secured to the container thus effectively sealing the container for future use.

While the present invention is not specifically limited to any one material, it' is preferred that the container and cover be of'either metal or plastic.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and' accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents maybe resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. A portable golf ball scrubber comprising a cleanser container having a ball receiving'opening therein, meanscleaning, said sealing means consisting of a cap threadedly engageable with the container, and the golf ball retaining means consisting of a resilient open ring adapted to resiliently retain a golf ball. therein, said open ring being aflixed to the cap by two elongated parallel memit is readily apparent that a novel hers, each extending from one end of the open ring to the inner face of the cap.

Claims

3. A GOLF BALL SCRUBBER COMPRISING A CLEANSER CONTAINER HAVING A BALL RECEIVING OPENING THEREIN, A CAP MEANS SELECTIVELY SEALING SAID OPENING, MEANS FOR RELEASABLE RETAINING A GOLF BALL IN A MANNER SO AS TO ENABLE A VERTICAL AND ROTATIONAL MOVEMENT OF THE GOLF BALL WITHIN THE CONTAINER UPON A MOVEMENT OF THE CAP MEANS, SAID GOLF BALL RETAINING MEANS CONSISTING OF A RESILIENT OPEN RING ADAPTED TO RESILIENTLY RETAIN A GOLF BALL THEREIN, SAID OPEN RING BEING AFFIXED TO THE CAP MEANS BY ELONGATED ROD-LIKE MEANS PROJECTING CENTRALLY THROUGH THE CONTAINER, SAID ROD-LIKE MEANS EXTENDING FROM THE OPEN RING TO THE INNER FACE OF THE CAP MEANS, AND AN INWARDLY PROJECTING SCRUBBING MEANS WITHIN THE CONTAINER ENGAGED BY THE GOLF BALL UPON THE MOVEMENT THEREOF FOR EFFECTING THE DESIRED CLEANING.
