Description
Aug. 6, 1963 A. PION ETAL OBJECT SUPPORTING BOX Filed Nov. 16, 1959 United States Patent Ofice Patented Aug. 6, 1963 3,099,991 OBJECT SUPPORTING BOX Arthur L. Pion, New York, and Bronislaw Zapolski, Hastings on Hudson, N.Y.; said Zapolski assignor to said Pion Filed Nov. 16, 1959, Ser. No. 853,240 3 Claims. (Cl. 134-443) This invention relates to an object supporting box, and more particularly, to a box containing a liquid into which an object is to be immersed.
It is an object of this invention, to provide the box with a lid which supports an object.
It is another object of this invention, to provide a lid which upon turning will immerse an object supported thereon.
With these objects in view an object supporting box according to the present invention, comprises a container defining a storagespace, lid means supported on the container for turning movement thereon to and from a closing position for closing the storage space, and object supporting means secured to the lid means for movement with the same and arranged so as to be located in the lower portion of the storage space when the lid means is in closing position.
According to another aspect of the present invention, a liquid is held in the bottom portion of the storage space so that an object located on the object supporting means is immersed in the liquid while the lid is in its closing position.
The novel features which are considered as characteristic tor the invention are set forth in particular in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, both as to its construction and its method of operation, together with additional objects and advantages there-of, will be best understood from the following description of specific embodiments when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is a prospective view of the object supporting box with the lid in open position thereof, and
FIG. 2 is a sectional view of the object supporting box with the lid in closing position.
Referring to the drawings, an object supporting box according to the present invention, comprises a container generally indicated as 10, having side walls 11 and- 12, a front wall 13 and a rear wall 14, defining a storage space 40. A liquid 41 is contained in the lower portion 51 of the storage space. Lid 15 is arranged for turning movement about a horizontal axis around pivots 16 and 17 mounted on the side walls 11 and 12. From the inner face 45 of the lid 15 spacer portions 28, 29, 30, and 31 protrude, carrying at their ends object supporting portions 18, 19, and 21. The spacer portions and the object supporting portions together form the object supporting means.
The two outermost object supporting portions 18 and 19 are provided with abutment portions 22, 23 in order to retain an object on the object supporting means even if the container is tilted from the preferred horizontal position thereof. The abutment portions 22 and 23 are spaced from the spacer portions 28 and 29 so that no liquid can be trapped therebetween.
When an object such as a comb, brush or the like 24 is placed on the object supporting means and the lid means 15 is turned into a position closing the storage space the object supporting portions 18, 19, 20, 21 of the object supporting means will be immersed into the liquid 41. The comb 24 located on the object supporting portions will also be immersed and the liquid 41 can efiect its cleaning and disinfecting action on the comb 24.
When the lid 15 is turned from its closing position illustrated in FIG. 2 to the open position illustrated in FIG. 1,
Such a construction will also permit the top face of lid 15 to be in one plane with the top face of the side walls 11 and 12 and of the rear wall 14 when in the closing position.
In order to facilitate the placing and removal of any object from the object supporting means, the lid 15 has a front portion 35 which is bent upwardly and outwardly. The side walls 11 and 12 are shaped so that their top surfaces conform to the shape of lid 15.
An object supporting box, according to the present invention, can be conveniently made from plastic material such as phenol fiormaldehyde or a polystyrene.
Preferably, the walls, namely the side walls, front and rear walls, and the bottom wall of the container are made out of one piece. The lid 15 and the object supporting means are also preferably made out of one piece. In this manner a box is obtained having essentially only two parts.
If the box is made of a suitable material, the liquid contained therein can be heated to any desired temperature.
It will be understood that each of the elements described above, or two or more together, may also find a useful application in other types of an object supporting box differing from the types described above.
While the invention has been illustrated and described as embodied in a container, it is not intended to be limited to the details shown, since various modifications and structural changes may be made without departing in any way [from the spirit of the present invention.
Without further analysis, the foregoing will so fully reveal the gist of the present invention that others can by applying current knowledge readily adapt it for various applications without omitting features that, from the standpoint of prior art, fairly constitute essential characteristics of the generic or specific aspects of this invention and, therefore, such adaptations should and are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and range of equivalence of the following claims.
What is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. An object supporting box, comprising, in combination, a container having side wall means, a front wall, a rear wall and a bottom wall defining a storage space for holding a liquid in the bottom portion thereof; lid means supported on said wall means for turning movement about a substantially horizontal axis between a closing position closing said storage space and an open position permitting admittance to said storage space; and object supporting means comprising angular bracket means having a first object supporting portion fixedly secured at one end to said lid means for turning movement therewith and eX- tending from the said lid means for a distance substantially equal to the distance between said bottom wall and the said lid means in the said closing position of the said lid means and located substantially horizontally in said open position of said lid means and a second object supporting portion having a free end and extending from the other end of the said first object supporting portion for a distance substantially equal to the distance between said front wall and said rear Wall in the said closing position of the said lid means and at such an angle as to be located substantially horizontally in said closed position of said lid means, said second object supporting portion being located in the lower portion of said storage space and immersed in the liquid held therein and "said two end being adjacent said front wall of said'container when said lid means is in storage space closingposition, so that in said closing position of said lid means an object may be supported on said second object supporting portion without slipping from said free end and immersed in the liquid and in said open position of said lid means may be supported on said first object supporting portion and removed from the liquid.
