The pipe made in accordance with this invention is characterized in that it comprises an inner Ibowl arranged within an outer bowl, the contact point between the inner bowl and the outer bowl being reduced to a and providing a passage around the inner bowl so that air is able to circulate through the body of the outer bowl and escape through the top between the inner and outer bowls. In this way the inner bowl is continuously cooled, thereby making the pipe more pleasant to smoke.

ln accordance with a further characteristic of the invention, the pipe lmouth piece is joined to the outer bowl by means of a stirrup shaped clamp, the middle part of which is engaged in -a `groove provided for that purpose on the outer bowl, so that the mouth piece Iand the outer bowl are held securely in position while the ends of the stirrup are inserted into openings provided for the purpose in the front part of the mouth piece on either side of the axial bore. A lilter is provided between Ithe mouth piece and the bowl which can be easily removed and replaced without requiring the dismantling of the assembly; if desired any suitable smoke cooling device can be substituted lfor this filter.

The tobacco pipe shown in FIGURE 1 comprises a mouth piece 3 having a tubular extension 30 axially arranged with a smoke passage therethrough so as to provide an extension of said passage 'and has a yielding plastic portion 28 thereon.

The pipe bowl assembly comprises an outer bowl 38 preferably made of molded plastic and an inner bowl 37 preferably made of a refractory material. The inner bowl is spaced from the outer bowl and held in spaced relationship therewith by means of a crown 40. rl'his crown has upwardly extending tabs or lugs 41 which are received by and held in ythe under portion yof a circular metal piece 39, which piece is retained under and holds the upper lip of the inner bowl. 'Ihe bottom portion of the inner bowl 'flits within a recess in the bottom portion of the outer bowl and is held in spaced relation therewith by means of a spacing ring 43, which rests rupon the radially inwardly displaced portion at the bottom part of said outer bowl. A circular groove is molded into a lower radially inwardly `displaced portion of said outer bowl which groove receives a stirrup 12 which stirrup has two rearwardly projecting rods which lare in the same horizontal plane with the shank 32. The stirnup is received within the openings formed within the mouth piece and holds the mouth piece in rigid assembly with the outer bowl. A hole formed through the bottom of said outer bowl and connected with an opening in the inner bowl has a tubular extension 31. Arranged on the outer portion of this tubular extension is a yielding plastic portion 29. Adjacent thereto is a shoulder 35.

3,091,246 Patented May 28, 1963 ICC The shank 32 is so arranged Ithat the opening 36 in one end of it will receive and be held in smoke-tight engagement with the tubular extension 30 by means of Ithe plastic element 28. The opening 34 in the other end receives and is held in smoke-tight engagement with the tubular extension 31. The shoulder 33 is provided on the end of this ltubular element which contacts the portion 29 and prevents the forward motion of the shank. The shank 32 may be supplied with outer cooling iins and with an inner spring (not shown).

In operation, air is admitted through the openings 22 in the bottom of the outer bowl, which air circulates upwardly between the yinner bowl 37 and the outer bowl 3S passing through the openings 44 in the spacer element 43. This lair cools the inner bowl 37 and passes upwardly and outwardly between the inner bowl and the crown and is vented at the under side of the crown. The shank may be removed by simply sliding the shank towards the mouth piece until the shank will clear the tubular extension 31, where it may be lowered and removed for cleaning. The shank may be replaced by sliding the rear end of the shank over the plastic portion 28 over the tubular extension 30 and then when it tis aligned with the tubular extension 31 it is forced towards the bowl until the shoulder 33 contacts the face portion of the tubular extension 31 and the plastic element 29 holds itin smoke-tight relationship therewith.

What I claim is:

1. A tobacco pipe including a mouth piece, a bowl and a shank connecting the mouth piece to the bowl, the shank comprising a hollow tubular element 'having a smoke duct therein and a pair of members diverging outwardly from said tubular element and from the mouth piece toward the bowl, the outer end of said members being joined to said bowl, said bowl comprising an outer bowl part, and an inner bowl part spaced inwardly from said -outer bowl part, said outer bowl having at least one hole vformed through the bottom thereof, la crown carrying the upper outwardly ilaring edge of the inner bowl and overlying the upper edge of the outer bowl and 'a washer carrying said crown by means of resilient lugs and maintaining the upper portion of the inner bowl centered in the outer bowl, said outer bowl having a radially inwardly displaced portion providing an internal Shoulder adapted to seat a bottom washer to maintain the lower portion of said inner bowl in spaced relation to said outer bowl.

A tobacco pipe as claimed in claim 1, wherein said shank comprises a bowl portion and a mouth piece portion rigidly iixed thereto, each portion having a sealing means thereon Iat an end thereof, said sealing means receiving and holding an intermediate tubular element removably connecting said bowl portion and said mouth piece portion.

A Itobacco pipe including a mouth piece, a bowl having a circular section and a shank connecting the mouth piece to the bowl, the shank comprising a hollow tubular element having a smoke duct therein, and a pair of members diverging outwardly from said tubular element and from the mouth piece toward the bowl, the outer end of said members being joined by means of a semi-circular portion, said :members and said portions comprising a stirrup, said bowl comprising an outer bowl part, and an inner bowl part spaced inwardly from said outer bowl part, said outer bowl having lat least one hole formed through the bottom thereof, a crown carrying the upper outwardly iiaring edge of ythe inner bowl and overlying the upper edge of the outer bowl and Ia washer carrying said crown by means of resilient lugs and maintaining the upper portion of the inner bowl centered in the outer bowl, the lower pontion of the outer bowl having a horizontal external groove therearound `adapted to receive said stirrup semi-circular portion, said outer bowl Y 3 having la radially inwardly displaced portion from said external groove and providing an internal shoulder adapted to seat a 'bottom fwasher to maintain the 'lower portion of said inner Ibowl in spaced relation to said outer bowl.

4. A tobacco pipe las claimed in claim 3, wherein said 5 gro'ove portion provides an opening for the shank to the inner bowl so that the hollow tube and the diverging stirrup members to have their longitudinal axes in the same horizontal plane.

A lsmokers pipe, comprising a `'bowl having a tube extending therefrom, a mouthpiece having a ltube extend- 'ing therefrom, two symmetrical lateral rods xing the bowl vto the mouth piece and a removable intermediate tubular element connecting the bowl to the mouth piece through said extending tubes.

t6 .A smokers pipe, as `claimed in claim 5, wherein said extending tubes have la sealing means thereon lat the free ends thereof, said sealing means receiving and holding the intermediate tubular element so as to removably connect said bowl to said mouthpiece.

Claims

3. A TOBACCO PIPE INCLUDING A MOUTH PIECE, A BOWL HAVING A CIRCULAR SECTION AND A SHANK CONNECTING THE MOUTH PIECE TO THE BOWL, THE SHANK COMPRISING A HOLLOW TUBULAR ELEMENT HAVING A SMOKE DUCT THEREIN, AND A PAIR OF MEMBERS DIVERGING OUTWARDLY FROM SAID TUBULAR, ELEMENT AND FROM THE MOUTH PIECE TOWARD THE BOWL, THE OUTER END OF SAID MEMBERS BEING JOINED BY MEANS OF A SEMI-CIRCULAR PORTION, SAID MEMBERS AND SAID PORTIONS COMPRISING A STIRRUP, SAID BOWL COMPRISING AN OUTER BOWL PART, AND AN INNER BOWL PART SPACED INWARDLY FROM SAID OUTER BOWL PART, SAID OUTER BOWL HAVING AT LEAST ONE HOLE FORMED THROUGH THE BOTTOM THEREOF, A CROWN CARRYING THE UPPER OUTWARDLY FLARING EDGE OF THE INNER BOWL AND OVERLYING THE UPPER EDGE OF THE OUTER BOWL AND A WASHER CARRYING SAID CROWN BY MEANS OF RESILIENT LUGS AND MAINTAINING THE UPPER PORTION OF THE INNER BOWL CENTERED IN THE OUTER BOWL, THE LOWER PORTION OF THE OUTER BOWL HAVING A HORIZONTAL EXTERNAL GROOVE THEREAROUND ADAPTED TO RECEIVE SAID STIRRUP SEMI-CIRCULAR PORTION, SAID OUTER BOWL HAVING A RADIALLY INWARDLY DISPLACED PORTION FROM SAID EXTERNAL GROOVE AND PROVIDING AN INTERNAL SHOULDER ADAPTED TO SEAT A BOTTOM WASHER TO MAINTAIN THE LOWER PORTION OF SAID INNER BOWL IN SPACED RELATION TO SAID OUTER BOWL.
