SEAL=PADLOCK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 308,987, dated December 9, 1884-.

To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID B. Rnnvn, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Seal-Padlock, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved padlock which is adapted to receive a seal card or ticket, and cannot be opened without destroying or mutilating the said ticket.

The invention consists in a padlock provided in its top with a slot, through which a ticket or card can he passed into the casing. which card covers an opening in the front of the casing, so that if the shackle is to be released the card must be cut or destroyed to permitpushing to one side the locking-hook in the lock. A slide covers the slot in the top of the casing, and the slide is locked in place by the shackle.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

111 the padlock-casing A the usual shackle, 3, is pivoted, and the lock is provided with a beveled hook, C, which is pressed by a spring, D, toward one side of ihe casing, so that it will snap into the notch (till the shackle B when the shackle is swung into the casing. A longitudinal slot, 1 is formed in the top of the casing, along the front side, F, of the easing, and through the said slot a seal card or ticket, G, is passed into the casing, which ticket shows through an opening, 11, in the front F. On the top of the casing a slide, J, is held, said slide being provided at one end with a slot, K, and an upwardly-bent wing part, L, adjoining the slot K, and on the end of the slide. The opposite end of the slide is bent to fit against the bent end of the top of the casing. The slide is below the pivoted end of the shackle. A prong, M, is formed on the under side of the top of the casing, against which prong the upper end of the hook G rests when thrown toward the side of the casing as far as possible.

The lock is applied and used in the following manner: The slide J is withdrawn, as shown in Fig. 1, to open the slot E, the ticket or card G is passed through the slot E into the casing, the slide J is then pushed back and the shackle is swung down, and the hook end of the same passes through the slot K in the slide and into the casing, thereby pressing back the hook (l, which then snaps outward and catches the shackle. Theshackle holds the slide J, thus preventing removal of the same. The shackle cannot be released, as the ticket G covers the only opening through which access can be had to the springhook O.

In order to open the lock, the ticket or card G must be pierced or cut to permit passing some implement through it to swing the hook C from the shackle. The ticket is thus destroyed, showing the lock has been opened.

The above-described lock can be used like any ordinary padlock.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a seal-padlock, the conrbinationgvith the casing provided with a slot in its top and a hinged shackle, ofa slide having an opening for the passage of the free end of the shackle, substantially as herein shown and described,whereby provision is made for closing the slot in the casing andloeking the slide in position, as set forth.

2. In aseal-padlock, the combination, with the casing A, provided with a slot, E, in its top, and an opening, H, in its front, and the hinged shackle B, of the slide J, provided with theslot K, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. The combination, with a padlock having a slot in its top, of the slide J, having a slot, K, and an upwardly-projecting part, L, at one end, substantially as herein shown and described.

4-. The combination, with a padlock-case having a large opening in its front and a slot on its top, of the slide J on the top of the easing, which slide is provided with a slot, K, at one end, the hook G, the spring D, and the shackle B, substantially as herein shown and described.
