(Cl. 245) This invention relates to window cleaning apparatus and more specifically to a device for cleaning louvered windows with which two adjacent surfaces of the panes of the windows may be cleaned simultaneously.
It is a principal object of the invention to provide a device for facilitating the cleaning of louvered windows with which two adjacent surfaces of the panes of a louvered window may be cleaned simultaneously.
It is another object of this invention to provide such a device for cleaning louvered windows which will be as simple and eflicient to use as squeegees which have been used heretofore for cleaning ordinary windows.
It is another object of this invention to provide a double squeegee for cleaning louvered windows which is adjustable to adapt it for use on louvered windows having diiferent dimensions.
It is another object of this invention to provide such a double squeegee which is adjustable to permit any manner of manipulation in the cleaning of the windows which the user of the device desires.
It is another object of this invention to provide such a double squeegee in which the adjusting means may be employed to convert the double squeegee to a standard single squeegee so that a window washer may carry a single device for washing all of the windows which he encounters.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description read in conjunction with the attached drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of a double squeegee constructed in accordance with this invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional View of the squeegee of FIG. 1 taken along the plane and in the direction indicated by the line and the arrows at 2-2 in FIG. 1, and
FIG. 3 is another view of the squeegee of FIGS. 1 and 2 taken facing toward the top edge of the squeegee as viewed in FIG. 2.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, the double squeegee illustrated therein comprises a pair of squeegee blades 19 and 12 constructed of elongated and rigid body members 14 and 16 respectively, with flexible wiper members 18 and 20 mounted on the body members 14 and 16 respectively. The wiper members 18 and 20 terminate in elongated wiping edges 22 (see FIG. 2) which are adapted to wipe and clean the surfaces of glass panes and the like.
A pair of support members (indicated generally at 24 and 26) are rigidly mounted on the body members 14 and 16 respectively, adjacent to one end thereof. Each of the support members 24 and 26 comprises two blocks 28 and 30 having elongated channels 32 therein which embrace the outer surfaces of the body members 14 and 16. Each pair of blocks 28 and 30 is supported together by pairs of bolts 34 and nuts 36 by which the blocks 28 and 30 are clamped onto the outer surfaces of the body members 14 and 16.
A manipulating handle 38 is attached to the support member 24 by means of a curved lip 40 on the handle 38 which is supported in the channel 32 in the support member 24 and clamped against the body member 14 by the bolts 34 and 36.
Each of the support members 24 and 26 is provided with a pair of passageways 42 therein which are aligned with the corresponding pair of passageways in the other support member 26 or 24. The support members 24 and 26 are interconnected by a pair of links or rods 44 which are received in the passageways 42 and clamped to the support members 24 and 26 by set screws 46.
The double squeegee illustrated and described above is employed for cleaning the panes of louvered windows in the following manner: a suitable cleaning fluid is applied to both surfaces of each pane of the window, and the end 48 of the double squeegee is inserted over the pane with the wiping edges 22 of the blades 10 and 12 contacting the opposite surfaces of the pane. The double squeegee is then moved from one end of the pane to the other, thereby wiping the cleaning fluid from the surfaces of the pane simultaneously.
The double squeegee may be adjusted for cleaning louvered windows in which the panes have dififerent thicknesses by loosening the set screws 46 and moving the blades 10 and 12 with respect to each other until the wiping edges 22 of the blades 10 and 12 are spaced from each other by a distance slightly less than the thickness of the pane. The set screws 46 should then be tightened to rigidly support the blades 10 and 12 in position for cleaning the window.
The double squeegee can be adjusted for cleaning different louvered windows in which the widths of the panes are different by loosening the nuts 36 and moving the support members 24 and 26 to dilferent longitudinal positions on the blades 10 and 12 until the end 48 of the blades 10 and 12 are spaced from the support members 24 and 26 by a distance slightly greater than the width of the panes which are to be cleaned by the device. The nuts 36 are then tightened to support the blades 10 and 12 in position for cleaning the particular window. It should be noted that it is desirable for the operative length of the squeegee blade between the end 48 thereof and the adjacent link 44 to be slightly greater than the width of the panes being cleaned so that the wiping edges 22 of the blades may be inclined to the width of the pane while the double squeegee is moved along the length of the pane. However, this operative length of the double squeegee blade is preferably not too great since it is desirable to have the pane being cleaned positioned closely adjacent to the manipulating handle 38 and since it is desirable to avoid the necessity of inserting the blade for too great a distance over the pane.
Where the particular user of the double squeegee prefers to wash the adjacent surfaces of two adjacent panes simultaneously instead of both surfaces of one pane, the double squeegee may be adjusted in the following manner to facilitate the method of manipulation which he prefers: the set screws 46 are loosened and the links or rods 44 removed from the passageways 42. The nuts 36 on the support member 24 are then loosened and the handle 38 removed therefrom and replaced in the support member 24 extending from the same side of the support member 24 as does the flexible wiping member 18. The links 44 are then again inserted in the passageways 42 with the positions of the blades 10 and 12 reversed so that the body members 14 and 16 lie between the flexible wiping members 18 and 20, and the wiping edges 22 of the double squeegee face outwardly away from each other. The set screws 46 are then retightened with the wiping edges 22 spaced from each other by a distance slightly greater than the distance between the adjacent panes of the louvered window. With the double squeegee assembled in this fashion, louvered windows may be cleaned by the simultanesous application of a cleaning fluid to the adjacent surfaces of two adjacent panes followed by the insertion of the double squeegee between the panes and the simultaneous wiping of the cleaning fluid from these adjacent surfaces of two adjacent panes.
Obviously many modifications of the structure of the double squeegee illustrated may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention especially in those instances where the adjustability features of the structure are not necessary for the particular application intended for the double squeegee.
I claim:
1. A double squeegee adapted to clean two adjacent sides of the panes of louvered windows simultaneously which comprises a pair of squeegee blades each comprising an elongated and generally rigid body member and a flexible wiper member mounted on said body member with a wiping edge thereof remote from and generally parallel to said body member and generally rigid support means interconnecting said body members of said blades and supporting said blades together generally rigidly with the wiping edges thereof lying generally parallel to each other and facing in opposite directions from the body members on which they are mounted, said support means comprising adjustable means for rigidly supporting said blades in a plurality of positions spaced with respect to each other along a direction measured perpendicular to said edges.

A double squeegee comprising a pair of squeegee blades each comprising an elongated and generally rigid body member and a flexible wiper member mounted on said body member and extending from said body member with a wiping edge remote from and generally parallel to said body member, and generally rigid support means interconnecting said body members of said blades together and supporting said blades together generally rigidly with the wiping edges thereof lying generally parallel to each other and between the body mem bers of said blades, said support means comprising adjustable means for rigidly supporting said blades in a plurality of positions spaced with respect to each other along a direction perpendicular to said wiping edges.
3. A double squeegee adapted for simultaneous clean ing of both sides of the panes of louvered windows and adapted for adjustment for cleaning louvered windows having different glass thicknesses which comprises a pair of squeegee blades each comprising an elongated and generally rigid body member and a flexible wiper member mounted on said body member and extending from said body member with a wiping edge remote from and generally parallel to said body member, a support member rigidly mounted on each of said body members adjacent to one end thereof, a support link extending between said support members generally perpendicular to said wiping edges of said blades with the ends of said link mounted on said support members and telescopically mounted on at least one of said support members, said link supporting said blades together with said wiping edges positioned generally parallel to each other and between said body members, said blades being movable with respect to each other while remaining parallel responsive to telescopic movement of said link with respect to said one support member, and means for clamping said link to said one support member on which it is telescopically mounted.
4. The double squeegee of claim 3 in which a manipulating handle is mounted on one of said support members.
5.. The double squeegee of claim 3 characterized further in that each of said support members is provided with an elongated channel therein in which said body member of one of said blades is received, and releasable clamping means for securing said support member on said blade at a plurality of positions spaced longitudinally of said body member.
6. The double squeegee of claim 3 in which two of said support links are provided and are each mounted in parallel passageways in both of said support members, and said means for clamping said links to said support member comprise a plurality of set screws mounted in said support member.

1. A DOUBLE SQUEEGEE ADAPTED TO CLEAN TWO ADJACENT SIDES OF THE PANES OF LOUVERED WINDOWS SIMULTANEOUSLY WHICH COMPRISES A PAIR OF SQUEEGEE BLADES EACH COMPRISING AN ELONGATED AND GENERALLY RIGID BODY MEMBER AND A FLEXIBLE WIPER MEMBER MOUNTED ON SAID BODY MEMBER WITH A WIPING EDGE THEREOF REMOTE FROM AND GENERALLY PARALLEL TO SAID BODY MEMBER AND GENERALLY RIGID SUPPORT MEANS INTERCONNECTING SAID BODY MEMBERS OF SAID BLADES AND SUPPORTING SAID BLADES TOGETHER GENERALLY RIGIDLY WITH THE WIPING EDGES THEREOF LYING GENERALLY PARALLEL TO EACH OTHER AND FACING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS FROM THE BODY MEMBERS ON WHICH THEY ARE MOUNTED, SAID SUPPORT MEANS COMPRISING ADJUSTABLE MEANS FOR RIGIDLY SUPPORTING SAID BLADES IN A PLURALITY OF POSITIONS SPACED WITH RESPECT TO EACH OTHER ALONG A DIRECTION MEASURED PERPENDICULAR TO SAID EDGES.
