Description
' Nov. 20, 1956 B. e. CURFMAN 2,
CLEANING IMPLEMENT Filed Sept. 28, 1954 SELF-CONTAINED WINDOW, ETC.
Budd GCUrfman I /2 Fig. 2
IIHIIIHIIIIIIHL v INVENTOR.
BY an! United States Patent SELF-CONTAINED WINDOW, ETC., CLEANING IMPLEMENT Budd G. Curfman, Akron, Ohio, assignor of one-sixth to The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in cleaners particularly for windows, mirrors, windshields, etc., and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an implement of this character which provides, in a single device, a scraper, a supply of cleaning fluid and a squeegee.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a self-contained cleaning implement of the charac ter described which may be readily stood in an upright position on a convenient support for preventing leakage and loss of the cleaning fluid.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a combination cleaner of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, durable, compact, light in weight and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cleaner constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure .2 is a view principally in vertical section through the device.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a tubular handle 5 for the reception of a suitable cleaning fluid, which handle may be of any desired material and capacity. The handle 5 is cylindrical and open at one end for the reception of fluid. Threadedly mounted on the open end portion of the handle 5 is a removable cap 6. Mounted on the cap 6 and extending therethrough is a suitable spray pump 7 of the finger actuated type.
The handle 5 further includes a tapered, closed end portion 8. Formed integrally with the closed end portion 8 of the tubular handle 5 is a scraping and cleaning head which is designated generally by reference character 9.
As illustrated to advantage in Figure 2 of the drawing, the head 9 is substantially V-shaped in transverse section and comprises integral, transversely elongated, divergent scraping and cleaning blades 10 and 11, respectively. The blade 10 is provided on its outer end with a beveled scraping edge 12. Then, the blade 11 has fixed on its outer edge, which parallels the edge 12, a squeegee 13.
It is thought that the manner in which the device is used will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, gripping the tubular handle 5 in one hand, the edge 12 of the blade 10 is engaged with the glass to remove therefrom snow, ice or other solid matter. Using the index finger of the hand which grips the handle 5, the pump 7 is then brought into use to spray the glass with fluid from said tubular handle 5. Then, the squeegee 13 of the blade 11 is brought into play to complete the cleaning operation. Of course, the cap 6 with the pump 7 thereon is removed to permit the tubular handle 5 to be filled.
It is believed that the many advantages of a window, etc., cleaner constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
A cleaner of the character described comprising: a tubular handle for the reception of a cleaning fluid, a manually operable spray pump for the fluid on one end of said handle, and a substantially V-shaped head on the other end of the handle integral therewith, said head comprising a pair of integral, transversely elongated, rigid, divergent blades including parallel free transverse edges on the outer ends thereof, one of said blades carrying a cleaning element.
