It is a well-known fact that in rectilinear frames for combing long fibres, the part collecting the impurities off the circular combing device, projects centrifigually of the impurities thus collected. The circular combing device consists of a rotary brush. This occurs more particularly at high combing speeds. In such cases this leads to serious drawbacks in that the impurities carried along by the upwardly directed draught may drop back onto the previously combed material, and that the dust may thus be conveyed with the separated fibres forming the noil which are still long enough to be recovered and retreated.
My invention has for its object an arrangement which disposes of, independently of the combing operations, the risk of a dispersion of the centrifugally projected impurities in air and being redeposited on the combed material. This arrangement insures, together with the suction of the dust, the separation between the latter and hte noil fibres which are sufficiently long and may be recovered and retreated.
According to my invention this result is achieved by arranging, in proximity with the area of contact between the large rotary brush cleaning the circular comb and the collecting drum or cylinder, a screen adapted to retain the fibres which have been removed from the comb and which are sufiiciently long to justify their recovery and their further treatment, said screen lying in front of a suction port connected with suction means adapted to collect the impurities projected centrifugally by the rotary brush. The fibres thus retained are then conveyed back toward the cylinders collecting the noil.
Further features and advantages of the invention will appear in the reading of following description, given by way of example and by no means in a limiting sense, of a preferred embodiment of my invention, reference being made to the accompanying drawings wherein:
FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic side view of a rectilinear frame for combing long fibres and incorporating an arrangement according to my invention.
FIG. 2 is a perspective View of a structural detail of said arrangement.
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of an arrangement according to the invention; and
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of still another embodiment of an arrangement according to the invention.
In said drawings:
P designates the fibre clamping means as a whole, R the rectilinear comb, and E the system of drawing cylinders. C designates the circular comb rotating in the direction of the arrow 1. Underneath said circular comb is arranged a large rotary brush 2 carried by the shaft 3 and rotating in the direction of the arrow 4. Underneath said brush 2, is positioned the cylinder 5 collecting the noil, which latter cylinder is carried by the shaft 6 and rotates in the direction of the arrow 7.
The periphery of the collecting cylinder 5 lies in contact with the periphery of the brush 2, so that the ice impurities collected by the actual brush are removed from the latter by the collecting cylinder 5. The numeral 8 designates a comb rocking around a stem 9, which serves for urging away from the periphery of the collecting drum or cylinder 5, the sheet of recovered noil fibres which are thereafter collected in a suitable container, not illustrated.
In proximity with the area of contact, between the brush 2 and the cylinder 5, there is provided a suction head 10' communicating with a suction device 11. To the front of said head there is arranged a separating screen which is given substantially the shape of a rake, including rectilinear teeth 12a located at suitably selected intervals in a manner to allow the dust to pass while holding back the fibres to be recovered. Said teeth are rigid with a carrier spindle 12b, said spindle 12b being rigid with at least one arm 13, to the outer end 14 of which is secured pivotally another arm 15 carried by an eccentric member 16 rotating in unison with the gear 17 around the spindle 18. The gear 17 meshes with another gear 19 keyed to a shaft 20 to which is also keyed 'a pulley 21 actuated through a belt 22 by the electric motor 23.
Actuation of the electric motor 23 imparts to the screen 12 an oscillatory movement between the position illustrated in solid lines in FIG. 1 and that illustrated in interrupted lines. The oscillation of the screen furthers the downward movement of the fibres arrested by the teeth 12a towards the collecting cylinder 5.
The screen may also be in the shape of a perforated metal diaphragm or of a gauze carried in a support. The
oscillatory movement of the screen may also be obtained by means differing from those illustrated, by resorting, for instance, to the use of electromagnetic vibrators. The slope of the screen should in all cases further said downward movement of the fibres held back, towards the collecting cylinder 5.
Obviously while remaining with the scope of my invention, as defined by the accompanying claims, the structural details and the general arrangement of the parts may be modified with reference to the arrangement described and illustrated by way of example.
What I claim is:
1. In a machine for combing long fibers having a driven rotary comb for combing the fibers and removing impurities therefrom, a driven rotary brush disposed radially of said rotary comb for cleaning said rotary comb, a driven noil collecting cylinder disposed radially of said rotary brush and having its axis of rotation below the axis of rotation of said rotary brush, an aspirator having an intake disposed radially of said rotary brush and spaced therefrom for communicating with a suction source and receiving said impurities removed by said rotary brush from said comb, said rotary brush in operation being driven in a direction of rotation for centrifugally discharging said impurities toward said aspirator intake, at vibratory screen periodically rockably actuated disposed between said aspirator intake and said rotary brush, dis- .posed inclined downwardly toward said noil collecting cylinder and having a lower edge disposed longitudinally of said noil collecting cylinder and actuatable into a terminal operative position in which said lower edge is disposed adjacent the periphery of said noil collecting cylinder, said screen having apertures to allow said impurities to pass into said aspirator intake, and said screen having said apertures dimensioned to cause the screen to collect fibers thereon for delivery to said noil collecting cylinder upon periodic vibration thereof.
2. In a machine for combing long fibers having a driven rotary comb for combing the fibers and removing impurities therefrom, a driven rotary brush disposed nadially of said rotary comb for cleaning said rotary comb,
a driven noil collecting cylinder disposed radially of said rotary brush and having its axis of rotation below the axis of rotation of said rotary brush, an aspirator having an intake disposed radially of said rotary brush and spaced therefrom for communicating with a suction source and receiving said impurities removed by said rotary brush from said comb, said rotary brush in operation being driven in a direction of rotation for centrifugally discharging said impurities toward said aspirator intake, 'a rockably mounted screen disposed between said intake and said rotary brush, disposed inclined downwardly toward said noil collecting cylinder and having a lower edge disposed longitudinally of said noil collecting cylinder and actuatable into a terminal operative position in which said lower edge is disposed adjacent the periphery of said noil collecting cylinder, said screen having apertures to allow said impurities to pass into said aspirator intake, said apertures being dimensioned to cause the screen to collect fibers thereon for delivery to said noil collecting cylinder upon vibration thereof, means rockably mounting said screen, and means to periodically rock said screen to cause it to deliver noil thereon to said noil collecting cylinder.
3. In a machine for combing long fibers having a driven rotary comb for combing the fibers and removing impurities therefrom, a driven rotary brush disposed radially of said rotary comb for cleaning said rotary comb, a driven noil collecting cylinder disposed radially of said rotary brush and having its axis of rotation below the axis of rotation of said rotary brush, an aspirator having an intake disposed radially of said rotary brush and spaced therefrom for communicating with a suction source and receiving said impurities removed by said rotary brush from said comb, said rotary brush in operation being driven in a direction of rotation for centrifugally discharging said impurities toward said aspirator intake, a periodically rocked screen disposed between said intake and said rotary brush, disposed inclined downwardly toward said noil collecting cylinder and having a lower edge disposed longitudinally of said noil collecting cylinder and actuatable into a terminal operative position in which said lower edge is disposed adjacent the periphery of said noil collecting cylinder, said screen having a plurality of spaced through elongated, parallel apertures to allow said impurities to pass into said aspirator intake, and said screen having said apertures dimensioned to cause the screen to collect fibers thereon for delivery to said noil collecting cylinder upon rockable oscillation thereof.
4. In a machine for combing long fibers having a driven rotary comb for combing the fibers and removing impurities therefrom, a driven rotary brush disposed radially of said rotary comb for cleaning said rotary comb, a driven noil collecting cylinder disposed radially of said rotary brush and having its axis of rotation below the axis of rotation of said rotary brush, an aspirator having an intake disposed radially of said rotary brush and spaced therefrom for communicating with a suction source and receiving said impurities removed by said rotary brush from said comb, said rotary brush in operation being driven in a direction of rotation for centrifugally discharging said impurities toward said aspirator intake, a periodically rocked screen disposed between said aspirator intake and said rotary brush, disposed inclined downwardly toward said noil collecting cylinder and having a lower edge disposed longitudinally of said noil collecting cylinder and actuatable into a terminal operative position in which said lower edge is disposed adjacent the periphery of said noil collecting cylinder, said screen having apertures to allow said impurities to pass into said aspirator intake, said apertures being dimensioned to cause the screen to collect fibers thereon for delivery to said noil collecting cylinder upon rockable oscillation thereof, and said screen comprising a wire mesh.
5. In a machine for combining long fibers having a driven rotary comb for combing the fibers and removing impurities therefrom, a driven rotary brush disposed radially of said rotary comb for cleaning said rotary comb, a driven noil collecting cylinder disposed radially of said rotary brush and having its axis of rotation below the axis of rotation of said rotary brush, an aspirator having an intake disposed radially of said rotary brush and spaced therefrom for communicating with a suction source and receiving said impurities removed by said rotary brush from said comb, said rotary brush in operation being driven in a direction of rotation for centrifugally discharging said impurities toward said aspirator intake, a periodically rocked screen disposed between said intake and said rotary brush, disposed inclined downwardly toward said noil collecting cylinder and having a lower edge disposed longitudinally of said noil collecting cylinder and actuatable into a terminal position in which said lower edge is disposed adjacent the periphery of said noil collecting cylinder, said screen having apertures to allow said impurities to pass into said aspirator intake, said apertures being dimensioned to cause the screen to collect fibers thereon for delivery to said noil collecting cylinder upon rockable oscillation thereof, and said screen comprising a perforated sheet constructed of sheet metal.

In a machine for combining long fibers having a driven rotary comb for combing the fibers and removing impurities therefrom, a driven rotary brush disposed radially of said rotary comb for cleaning said rotary comb, a driven noil collecting cylinder disposed radially of said rotary brush and having its axis of rotation below the axis of rotation of said rotary brush, an aspirator having an intake disposed radially of said rotary brush and spaced therefrom for communicating with a suction source and receiving said impurities removed by said rotary brush from said comb, said rotary brush in operation being driven in a direction of rotation for centrifugally discharging said impurities toward said aspirator intake, a vibratory screen periodically rockably actuated disposed between said aspirator intake and said rotary brush, disposed inclined downwardly toward said noil collecting cylinder and having a lower edge disposed longitudinally of said noil collecting cylinder and actuatable into a terminal operative position in which said lower edge is disposed adjacent the periphery of said noil collecting cylinder, said screen having apertures to allow said impurities to pass into said aspirator intake, said screen having said apertures dimensioned to cause the screen to collect fibers thereon for delivery to said noil collecting cylinder upon periodic oscillation thereof, said noil collecting cylinder having its axis of rotation ofiset from a vertical plane passing through the axis of rotation of said rotary brush, and the offset being in a direction toward said aspirator intake and said screen.

Claims (1)

1. IN A MACHINE FOR COMBING LONG FIBERS HAVING A DRIVEN ROTARY COMB FOR COMBING THE FIBERS AND REMOVING IMPURITIES THEREFROM, A DRIVEN ROTARY BRUSH DISPOSED RADIALLY OF SAID ROTARY COMB FOR CLEANING SAID ROTARY COMB, A DRIVEN NOIL COLLECTING CYLINDER DISPOSED RADIALLY OF SAID ROTARY BRUSH AND HAVING ITS AXIS OF ROTATION BELOW THE AXIS OF ROTATION OF SAID ROTARY BRUSH, AN ASPIRATOR HAVING AN INTAKE DIPOSED RADIALLY OF SAID ROTARY BRUSH AND SPACED THEREFROM FOR COMMUNICATING WITH A SUCTION SOURCE AND RECEIVING SAID IMPURITIES REMOVED BY SAID ROTARY BRUSH FROM SAID COMB, SAID ROTARY BRUSH IN OPERATION BEING DRIVEN IN A DIRECTION OF ROTATION FOR CENTRIFUGALLY DISCHARGING SAID IMPURITIES TOWARD SAID ASPIRATOR INTAKE, A VIBRATORY SCREEN PERIODICALLY ROCKABLY ACTUATED DISPOSED BETWEEN SAID ASPIRATOR INTAKE AND SAID ROTARY BRUSH, DISPOSED INCLINED DOWNWARDLY TOWARD SAID NOIL COLLECTING CYLINDER AND HAVING A LOWER EDGE DISPOSED LONGITUDINALLY OF SAID NOIL COLLECTING CYLINDER AND ACTUATABLE INTO A TERMINAL OPERATIVE POSITION IN WHICH SAID LOWER EDGE IS DISPOSED ADJACENT THE PERIPHERY OF SAID NOIL COLLECTING CYLINDER, SAID SCREEN HAVING APERTURES TO ALLOW SAID IMPURITIES TO PASS INTO SAID ASPIRATOR INTAKE, AND SAID SCREEN HAVING SAID APERTURES DIMENSIONED TO CAUSE THE SCREEN TO COLLECT FIBERS THEREON FOR DELIVERY TO SAID NOIL COLLECTING CYLINDER UPON PERIODIC VIBRATION THEREOF.
