COMBlNG-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 787,139, dated April 11, 1905.
be it known thatwe, ALFRED Vnxxrxo and (nannies l'lUnnn'r GIEGAUFF, subjects of the Emperor of Germany, and residents of Mulhouse, Alsace, (lermany. have invented new l i l l l l and useful Improvements in Combing-Ma 3 E is supported by a plate I, which rests on chines. of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specilication.
The present invention is designed for comb ing-mzwhines. and has for its object considerably to simplify the labor of the operative or f to enable the number of machines which can be attended by one operative to be increased, and thereby to diminish the expenseof labor. in those machines hitherto known the combing or waste is collected in a box underneath the same. and this box must be very often I emptied very troublesome, because the combings collect in it in a fluffy condition. In order to avoid this frequent emptying of the collecting-box. the follmving device has been inventevcry five minutes or so which is 3 ed. in which thecombing or waste isautomati ically pressed down in the box until it is in a very powerfullycompressed state. oucntly the collectirig-box only requires to be emptied comparatively seldom about every two or four hours. For this purpose the box has a partition at the filling-aperture,
reaching up to close against the periphery of I the dolling-rollers, so-callcd -dotferj the stripping-blade or scraper forms, with its support. another box-wall lying opposite the lirst one, so that to a certain degree the dotting-roller and the stripping-blade themselves form the compressing organs.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the present invention as applied to a combingmachine of the Ileilmann type, of which in chine only the head is illustrated.
ln the drawing, A indicates the feedingnipper of the machine; B, the rotary combingwhile i all of which form well-known parts of the Heilmann machine. Underneath the roller 1) is placed the collecting-box F for the comb- 5o ings or waste. This box has at the top a sloping wall j, which is placed close to the covering of the doll'er I), while the scraper the oscillating shaft (l and forms a further inclosure of the collecting-box in such a manner that the whole forms a space incloscd by the walls f 1' and the dofl'er l).
The combings which are continuously removed from the comb-cylinder by means of point u near the oscillating scraper E, where the said scraper removes them from the doffer, and the combings fall down, owing to their weight. 'hen the box is thus lightly filled,
the compression of the fluffy mass of comb-- mgs commences, because, on the one hand, the
freshly-delivered combings tend to press the others down in order to make room, and there is nowhere any opening whm-cby they can escape from the box, and, on the other hand, the
combings cannot pass farther with the dotl'er than up to the scparatirig-point u, at which point the oscillatingscraper E in front of the dotl'er obliges them to remain. Consequently after a certain time the mass of combings in the box are reduced to a strongly-compressed 30 state. In order to empty the collecting-box E thus tilled, it is only ncedful to open the Y front door which door is arranged to open cylinder: t, the brush for brushing off the comldog-cylinder; l), the taking-otl' roller or dotl'e r, with its card-like covering, which transports the material delivered by the brush, and
E the oscillating stripping-blade or scraper,
outward, as shown by dotted lines.
In order automatically to remove the dust 5 which constantly forms in the front of and around the brush G, there is; placed before the brush a polished guard-sheet II, which is partly perpendicular and partly inclined and reaches down to the box-wall quence of the position of this sheet and the quivering motion thereof during the working of the machine the dust intercepted by the sheet ll slips continuously down its smooth in- In conse- 9O ner wall and is consequently finally seized by the dofling-roller D and driven into the colleeting-box F.
What We claim is 1. In a combing-machine, the combination with the doffer, of areceptacle below the dofier for the combings removed therefrom, said receptacle having a relatively narrow receivinginlet a, a downwardly-inclined plate f at one side of said inlet, and a hinged, vibrating plate 6, provided with a scraper- E, at the opposite side of said inlet, the movements of said vibrating plate being toward and from the inclined plate f, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a combing-machine, the combination With the combing-cylinder, the brush C, and
